P45+ profiles seem off colour, Nikon D3 don't
I am at a loss. I have been reproducing paintings, drawings etc for museums, art galleries etc for years now, but lately I can no longer seem to get the colours right, whatever I do (using filters, yes or no, change lighting, yes or no...). I have tried many variations, and I have discovered that using the Nikon D3 V2 (included in CO1) profiles with my P45+ seem to give the best and truest colours, provided I use the Linear Response Curve as well. But as I say I am at a loss, because I can no longer trust the work flow I have been using, with great success, for years. Needless to say that I work with fully calibrated Eizo screen, and properly white balanced shooting using Gretag McBeth cards etc.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Under exactly the same circumstances my Nikon D3 performs better (colour-wise). The change in quality seems to have happened after the latest firmware upgrade, it doesn't seem likely, but I am having these problems since then.
Thanks in advance

I'm sure you will get plenty of suggestions, however more details would be necessary to provide constructive ones. Since color management is a very delicate subject for many, providing the specifics of your machine and software version would be a must to get the ball rolling.
In regard to the firmware, the latest version would not have effected the color reproduction and you are welcome to downgrade the firmware to where it was before to ensure that is the case for your peace of mind.0 -
Thank you Drew,
I am using the latest version of Capture One Pro (521 built 42071), Spyder 3 for calibrating my Eizo ColorEdge CG241. Iam working on a PC with Windows XP and an Nvidia GeForce GTX260 video card. It seems as if the P45+ cannot handle certain colour combinations, at least not with the regular colour profiles. I know it sounds improbable and even unlikely (and it certainly isn't the reason why I invested in the PhaseOne gear...), but as I said, when I am using the P45+ with its originals colour profiles, I cannot even get near the proper colours in certain cases, while the D3 has no problems whatsoever. I am not new to it and like to believe that I know what I am doing.
Thanks again, let me know what else you would need. I'll be happy to post some shots

I think posting images would be the next step. You may also want to create a support case so that you are looking at the issue direct with us, in the event that we cannot check the forum.0 -
Thanks again Drew,
I think I'll make it a support case. I have been experimenting a bit further and it really seems that the D3 generic V2 profile as supplied by Phase one, does yield better results. This, I think, shouldn't be the case.
Kind regards,

I do a lot of repro work with a P45+ running through a Hasselblad H2, and since we're producing for archival purposes we always use Gretag color cards (or preferably Don Williams Golden Thread target). I rely on C1 for a lot of things, but it doesn't support targeted color balancing, only tonal balance of greyscale values. If I need accurate color balance -by the numbers, not visually, even on an Eye One balanced Eizo- I turn to Photoshop.
Could a firmware update or other changes to the P45+ have affected a color profile made for C1?
Maybe you can use a card to make a nicely balanced profile and save it.

The firmware would have no bearing on color repro.0 -
Drew,
Now I'm wondering, and a bit off topic maybe....but if a Capture One profile for the P45 is made in January.....then in February a firmware update is made for the P45, will that change the color profile made for Capture One in January? And/or, does Capture One 5.2 use the same color profile for the P45 as it did in version 4.x? Or are preset color profiles in Capture One updated with new releases? Am I chasing my tail? If the software OR the hardware change the way they handle color, won't they need to be adjusted in tandem?
