Custom ( Magne ) profiles

There are certain things I do not like about 5DMKII RAW files. I think this is a camera issue and not a raw converter issue. In my opinon the MKII produces very heavy blacks and too much contrast overall. Not as life-like as the 5D. Does anyone else see this?

CaptureOne displays less of this than LIghtroom but I see it in many of my files.

I wonder if C1 4.x can utilize custom profiles that would offer something different as an option for the MKII?

    Not sure whether you have already upgraded to CO 4.6, because I find the 5D Mk II profiling very good. That said, there is always space for personal taste.

    Regarding 3rd party and home made profiles: you can use them with CO4.x without problems. Two constraints: name of the profile requires a particular format (same as Phase One uses for the profiles) and folder location is within the Program Files folder of Capture One. I have always used the Magne profiles with CO4 from day one.

    I also use Magne profiles with CO 4.6 but I would like to have them show directly under the "OTHER" scroll listing as opposed to "CANON"/"EOS20D" where I have them now.
    Do you know how to accomplish this?

    Persio,
    This can be done, and is rather easy to install. Right-click on the profile and select Install Profile (double click will do as well since this is Windows default option for profiles). This will copy the file to the Windows\system32\spool\drivers\color folder. Camera profiles in this folder will show up in the OTHER scroll list in CO4/Win. Renaming the profile's file name is optional. The OTHER scroll list displays the file name so you can determine how and where the profile shows up in the list by renaming them accordingly.
    Note that the folder mentioned is where CO3 stored its profiles and these show up in the OTHER list as well if you had CO3 installed on your computer in the past.

    I did this on WinXP, and on Vista it might be a bit different. You need Adminstrator rights to perform this action. Start CO4 again after installing the profiles for them to show up in the list.

    Thank you very much for the information.
    It worked very well and now I have the Magne profiles with an "A_" prefix so that they show right on the top of the list in the OTHER group.
    One thing I noticed is that the profile name can not start with the word "Canon" because CO 4.6 somehow decides not to show it under the OTHER group.
