C1 Pro reverts back to expired 30 day trial repeatedly
I am very happy that the C1 user forum is back on line.
I have been using C1 PRO since version 1.1 and now I am using 3.7.6 and I have NEVER had the problems I have been having since November of last year 2006.
I have had an open support case #25106 with Phase One tech support since November 2006 and they do not have a solution. Hopefully someone here, Keith, Ulf or a user can help me.
November 2006 I changed my Windows XP Pro system drive and installed a bigger 300 Gb internal hard drive. After I did this every 3 or 4 times I would open C1 Pro the program reverts back to the expired 30 day trial. Everytime this happens the c1dslr.lic file is deleted - I don't know why this license is being deleted. This is still happening to this date. Phase One tech support has been very good about giving me additional activations since this issue started.
Phase One tech support told me that there are only two reasons for this to happen. The hard drive serial number changes or the CPU is changed. The CPU has never been changed and after I replaced the system hard drive C in November, that drive has never been changed.
Following is how my machine is configured:
C Drive: Internal Maxtor 300Gb hard drive with only Windows XP Pro SP2 and my programs
D Drive: Internal Maxtor 300Gb hard drive with only my data
E&F Drives: CD/DVD drives
G Drive: External Maxtor 300Gb Firewire 800 drive - backup drive for drive D
H Drive: External Maxtor 300Gb Firewire 800 drive - backup drive for drive C
I also use a Lexar Compact Flash reader (Firewire 400) that I plug and unplug when I transfer RAW images from the card to the computer. The only "drive" that I plug and unplug is the Lexar card reader.
Each morning at 2 a.m. Retrospect Pro backup software backs up the C and D drive to the G and H drive but I wouldn't think that would be causing my problem.
Most of my support correspondence has been with Peter at Phase One tech support. He suggested that I reinstall Windows. Several weeks ago, I formated drive C and re-installed Windows XP PRO. The first program I installed after Windows was C1 Pro 3.7.6. I opened C1 after I reinstalled it and the second time I opened the program, it reverted back to the expired 30 day trial so reinstalling the OS didn't help.
I have now reinstalled all of my other software on Drive C and I still have the issue with C1. Two weeks ago I did a clean uninstall of C1 as detailed in a Phase One KB article and did a clean install of 3.7.4 just to see if it would help. It did not - C1 Pro is still reverting back to expired trial.
The last reply from Phase One tech support said that version 4 will use a different activiation method and suggested I wait for version 4 beta to arrive then volunteer to be a beta tester so I could use the Beta version. I have sent the required information to Phase One to be a beta tester.
Phase One is the only software company that I know of that does not offer telelphone support - I would be very happy to pay for it. Going back and forth with tech support over the web since November has been a real hassle.
Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this issue?
When is C1 Pro Version 4 expected to become available?
Thanks!

I have developed a similar problem and posted a thread here on de-activation. My issue is directly related, apparently, to a new eSATA external drive. I re-built my system in November due to mainboard failure. I installed a new hard drive and did not have any problems with C1, or any other software until this week.
Not only has C1 deactivated itself two times, so has PhotoShop CS2. I think it is related to the eSATA drive. I have shut this drive down and I have not had a repeat of the issue.
I was also told by tech support that the current version of C1 is having de-activation issues and that version 4 of the software would change that. Whether or not it fixes the issue remains to be seen.
I had my C1 crap out at the worst possible time...when I had a job to process! Phase One tech support did come to the rescue with a new activiation, but that still does not solve the issue.
I have a new 500GB drive for back-up and I am afraid to use it.
What a load. I hate this activation stuff. It apparently only punishes the honest folks who pay full price for their software. The dishonest folks use dishonest means to avoid the activation issue.
At least Adobe had a solution in the form of a patch for their activation scheme. I hope that works.
Good luck to us all...we will need it.0 -
