C1 10.1: 'Delete' is a problem now
Hey folks,
Did you notice that the Delete re-work is actually making things worse (usability regression)?
Basically, when I press Delete key (which is right under my thumb on the keyboard I use) the image is immediately removed from the collection (or from folder) and put into the Trash? No confirmation, no nothing, just moved instantly. Restoring it back to the original location/collection could be a pain (esp. if you notice the file in Trash much late, if you notice it AT ALL).
Now, I don't know about you, but for me any such behavior without confirmation is a HUGE problem. One accidental press on Delete button and your work is gone and you might not even notice it.
Is there a way to ALWAYS ask for confirmation before any delete operation?
Ideally, I'd like to bind "Delete Destructively" on Delete key, with confirmation. But I am unable to do so, since I cannot find a way to bind a Delete key. Anyone knows how?

Yes you are right that it would be nice if there was a warning ...
The other thing is where is the catalog trash kept?
And, even if you undo the move to catalog trash action, you need to restart C1 to have the images reappear in the folder.0 -
The thing with Undo'ing the action that removes the photo into the Trash is that it can only be done if you deleted right away and immediately want to get the image back.
If you accidentally deleted and noticed later, there is no easy way to figure out which folder/collection this photo should go to.
In Windows, the Recycle Bin at least has the option to restore the content to the original location. There is no such thing in C1, as far as I can tell.
But these are nice-to have little things.
The HUGE thing is that I don't want my images being deleted (even to Trash) without confirmation.
And personally, the whole "move to Trash" thing just annoys me than helps. When culling, I just tag all the photos I don't like with RED color tag and then select them all (for final review) and delete them all at once, from the disk.
Now I have to deal with the Trash which just complicates the process with no benefit to me.0 -
During beta testing I already notified Phase One of the absence of warnings in the deletion process, IMHO at least. Hope it will be on their to-do-today list some day. đ 0 -
I want to suggest a workflow for deletion process. Unless the image was an absolute mistake, e.g. severely under exposed or those "OOPS!" moments that could never be corrected...delete them immediately. For the rest of the "not sure" images, I recommend you color tag them. For me, I use the magenta/purple color. I have assigned a "/" key on the number pad of my keyboard as a shortcut. If I'm not sure, I press "/" and move on during my culling process.
Once I'm certain that I want to delete the image flagged magenta/purple, I then sort via the color tag/label and manually select the magenta/purple images. Then right click and delete. To prevent second-guessing myself, I immediately invoke the Empty Trash command.0 -
Good tip, Ronald!
However, some new delete features are so powerful that a warning message might seem appropriate. I am in particular referring to the ability to delete from Album in to Trash or Permanently.
When I intend to delete a single images but mistakenly delete multiple selected images, it can be hard to recover because you do not remind which images you had put in the Album (obviously carefully selected from a large collection). A warning when deleting multiple images should always be possible in my idea.
For those who hate warnings, use Preferences, Warnings to manage it.
My 2cts.0 -
Oh yes. This was very unexpected to me.
"Control + Delete" has the usual warning dialogue, but now, "Delete" by itself sends the image to the catalog trash without confirmation.
I also noticed that when I delete images from the catalog trash, the original containing folder displays a negative number of images until CO is restarted.0 -
Yes this is a mess- with Negative (-) values showing up in referenced folders after deleting reference; delete acting immediately with no warning /choice...
Additionally importing broken with 2 variants showing up for every image referenced to on external HDD (no sidecart selected on import) & can't remove without deleting all references, then reimporting after images generated completely in first instance of import- then shows (-) number of images in folder and on and on - terrrible cycle of errors
Not nice / usable to use anymore!

Yeah man...
I reported that about 3 weeks ago and got "We will report this immediately to our R&D for further review and to implement a fix asap."
The OpenCL export of Fuji files at just a second or two to render 24Mpixels was sweet, but I had to roll back to 10.0.2 for the basic usability.0 -
Tried the very latest C1 10.1.2, and the Delete key's behavior is still the same (immediate removal of the photo without confirmation), which is very sad. âšī¸
The delete key is right under my thumb on the keyboard I use and any mis-click immediately removed the photo from the folder/collection, which is BAD, really bad.
And, it is impossible to re-assign the Del key in the keyboard manager.
This "new and improved" delete system proved to be complete disaster.0
