independent saturation controls for shadows, mids and highs
I want to be able to control the saturation of shadows, mids and highlights separately, or using a luminance/saturation curve. Like how Davinci Resolve does it (http://nofilmschool.com/2015/11/simple- ... ofessional) as well as other high end colour grading tools.
This would be a really useful and efficient addition for me and I suspect a lot of Capture One users for correcting saturation imbalances in different luminance ranges as well as creating some beautiful looks, without having to use local adjustments or export to PS with all the added time and storage space that involves. (Note this is not about toning or saturation of toning since you already have that feature for shadow/mid/highlights.)
Obviously I can use a brush with a saturation adjustment, but to do that for many images is very inefficient if what I really want is just to adjust saturation in shadows say (without affecting contrast - could just use curves if I wanted to change contrast along with saturation), especially if I want to do the same thing for a set of images under similar lighting.
The way I imagine it working is as a standard saturation control but effectively masked with a curve for a particular luminance range. Could be fixed curves for shadow, mid, highlight, or probably even better a user editable luminance/saturation curve.

This tool is not unrelated to the desired effect but it does not allow one to desature the image in certain tonal ranges only.
The colour balance tool only allows one to add a tint to certain tonal ranges but it does not provide saturation control over the original colours.
In C1, one would have to use the curves tool by manipulating the different colour channels individually.0 -
Maybe it's more general to be able to generate a mask based on the luminance. 0 -
Hello Alain
I can suggest two possible solutions to your query.
The "Ozone" tool in the Tiffen DFX suite does exactly what you seek - changes in saturation at specified luminosity settings. A very flexible tool. DFX v4.13 is available for a free trial as a PScc plugin (or standalone) from Tiffen. Their technical support is excellent.
Alternatively you can try Tony Kuyper's "TK Actions" software that enables you to use a "levels" algorithm to tweak lightness at low and high luminosities, to suit. A set of basic "Actions" is available for free for standalone use.
I hope one (or both) packages is useful to you. All the best, Peter.0 -
Hi
I'm looking for solutions inside C1.0
