Of course nobody knows that yet - they only announced it yesterday, for release "in the fall of 2020". Which means that it is not yet ready for release, is still being developed and tweaked, so that developers of software like Capture One are not yet able to determine everything they need to do to get their software to work under the new OS.

On past performance, Capture One is most unlikely to announce compatibility with MacOS 11 (Big Sur) before the OS has actually been released in its final form, nor should one expect them to.

Thank for your insightful answer Ian.
I should have specified “does anyone on this forum happen to be on the Apple developer program? If so have any of you tired running CO1 20 on Big Sur yet?”
I have Big Sur but have not had time to partion and install.
So, if any developer are reading this thread, thanks in advance for your input.
    Many thanks,

does anyone on this forum happen to be on the Apple developer program?

    Yes.

have any of you tired running CO1 20 on Big Sur yet?

I have not.  Needed changes to my simple apps for new releases are typically minimal, often nothing more than a re-compile followed by testing.  I've found that following the earliest betas makes for more work as I change things to work around beta bugs then have to change them back closer to release.   As a result I'll probably not put Big Sur on a machine until early fall.

My guess is that Capture One will work fine on existing hardware.   The interesting question will be how well will it run on a Mac running on Apple Silicon next year.  Even that will be mostly a question of curiosity for me -- my Mac is only a year old.   We will likely know more when Big Sur goes into public Beta.

    Thanks Marco,
Am prepping my system prior to installing the dev beta tomorrow. Will let you know how it goes.

    Hi All,

Reporting from Mac OS Big Sur, so far so good...

I just imported about 1000 pics from a quick photoshoot I did this morning, I shot RAW and JPG, so about 500 each all 47MP.  I imported culled and rated all.  Then tried a quick edit on one RAW file using "edit with" Photoshop, then layers using Luminar and NIK collection and back to C1.  All seemed to work fine.

The only hiccup I encountered was an error message appeared informing that Plugin intialization had failed upon launching C1 for the first time.  The fix is simple - just relaunch the "open with" plugin in the preferences menu.

I have not done any "heavy" work on any files yet but remain cautiously optimistic as I have not encountered any performance issues.

FYI I'm running this on a 27" iMac 5k late 2015 - 2TB Fusion Drive, 64Gb of Ram.  The media (about 15K photos) is on a Pegasus R4 16TB connected via Thunderbolt.

Will let you know if I encounter any issues

    Hi All,

A quick update, so far all is working fairly well apart for two issues (so far):

C1 quits unexpectedly upon first launch but starts up fine on second try.

The "edit with" plugin which gets knocked out every time C1 is launched and needs to be re-activated after launching.

Besides this all seems to be working fine, am doing a lot of back-and-forth with PS 21, resizing, masking, exporting etc in PS 20 then back to C1 with no issues...

Hope this helps whoever is interested.

    Best,

    Nick

Thanks for that @NDTPhotos, that was exactly what I came here for, as I was just thinking about doing the same thing myself.

I am running a MBP Mid 2015 with 16 Gb RAM, so hopefully I will see a similar performance.  I am certainly not expecting it to be faster, but just to run the same (as with the Adobe Products) would be nice... we shall see!

I will try and remember to come back to report on if I see similar issues to what you are getting (none of which seem show-stopping).

    Regards

    Kevin

It works well all things considered, a few hiccups here and there, its frozen a few times. also tethered capture doesn't work... basically the same issue that happened with Catalina

    I'm on C1 20 for fuji.

I'm experiencing problems using process recipes in Capture One 20 using Big Sur OS. Anyone else having similar issues?

You'd be more likely to get a helpful reply if you described in a bit of detail what kinds of problems you are experiencing.

Also you should note that Capture One does not yet support Big Sur. In fact Big Sur is still only in beta, and hasn't been released yet. Apart from anything else, that means that it is uncertain whether the problems you are seeing are caused by defects in Capture One or in Big Sur or both.
