Major releases - how far apart?
Buying C1 Pro gives me the right of two free major release upgrades. I'm just trying to find the value of that right. How far apart are the major releases?
I can't seem to find any date when version 2 and 3 were released.
If v3.x.x will not provide working support for the Canon EOS 400D / XTi (which I have), I guess see no point in buying Capture One Pro before version 4 is out, thus hopefully giving me version 5 and 6 free in the future (unless there will be other chargable version inbetween those).
Rgds,
Christian

Christian,
Since Capture One became available to DSLR shooters, there has never been a chargeable upgrade...
I'll Repeat, ... ever since Capture One for DSLRs came out, there Has Never Been a Chargeable UpGrade.
ALL versions since 1.0 have been Free Updates to current 3.7.5
There will be another Free Update to 3.7.6 and then 4.0 PRO will be available 2Q 2007. The 4.0 version will be chargeable.
So Yes, if you purchase PRO now, 1 of your 2 Free UpGrades will be redeemed for version 4.0
While the problem with the Canon 400 / Rebel XTi
will most certainly be fixed, we don't know when this will be.
Sincerely,
k c0 -
Keith,
To clarify, when I purchased C1 Pro v3.5 in March 2004 it came with 2 free updates - will the first of these be used when I (eventually) move to v4.0 (ie will v4.0 be a cost-free update for me)?0 -
photographicon,
Correct.
All Updates since your purchase of Capture One has been Free.
Can't say that about too many programs.
4.0 will be an UpGrade, and you will have to use one of your 2 Free Upgrades.
Cheers,

Nice one... roll on Q2, 2007 😎 0 -

Re the upgrades.... what is the situation for those of us who purchased the "5 pack" of upgrades a while ago for what I think was $250.00. God I think this was back when I was using CO v2.0.. ( I think it was called the 5 Pack)
What was covered?
How many are left?
Will this cover the major upgrade to COv4.0?
FWIW, I originally paid aprox $500.00 for CO & aprox $250.00 for the upgrade package. Not complaining, as I like and use the program a lot!0 -
Steve,
Those with the The 5-Pack Deal have all of these UpGrades affiliated with their Product Key.
Yes, 1 of your UpGrades will be used for the version 4.0 and you will maintain the remainder for future chargeable UpGrades.
Does not seem 5-Pack folks need to be concerned with staying UpGraded for some time to come 😉 you've invested in the Future !
Cheers,

Keith,
Maybe may long yet to be born great-grandchild will get to use my 5th. upgrade.
Can one legally bequeath upgrades, or is that a breach of the use terms and conditions?
Tongue firmly in cheek,
John.0 -
John,
Well, the Program License itself is non-transferable so this would certainly pertain to the UpGrades affiliated with the License.
I suppose 3.6 and / or at least version 3.7 could have been chargeable Upgrades, but the decision was made to offer these as Free UpDates.
Just what everyone seems to want these days... Something for Nothing
Then of course, if one bought something they don't think they'll use... Buyers Remorse sets in... and I completely understand.
With the complete re-write of Capture One 4.0, it will become easier to add
Features, Functions and Tools sought by Photographers.
These may well indeed be chargeable into the future... and I think the Future Is Bright !
😎
Cheers,
k c0
