    a few suggestions
    1. after connecting the camera and switching it on, check that no program is starting (Canon, Image Capture)
    2. next, open System Profiler and lookup the camera under USB; if it shows...
    3. start CO 6.4.3

if it does not show... try a different cable, USB port

Connect the camera and open Image Capture. If the camera is shown in the sidebar there then make sure there are no actions selected in the drop down menu. For me, it defaulted to EOS Utility and would open up and mess up when I tried connecting with Capture One.

Thomas can you elaborate more please?

As we have implemented a new SDK with Capture One 6.4.3, we would be happy to have more details in a support case so if there is an issue with the software we can have the facts to provide the software department.

I use a brand new EOS 5D MkIII as well as an older 5D MkI in my studio. Since the update with tethering for the MkIII was installed CO no longer recognises the old MkI, just displaying the greyed-out "no camera attached" message in the camera dropdown. Image Capture is showing that the camera is successfully communicating with the computer though. This is affecting my workflow severely. Unfortunately I still need to use the old MkI alongside the MkIII.

    Capture One 6.4.3 Build 58957

MacPro 2x2.4 Ghz Quad-core Intel Xeon
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    16 Gb 1066 Mhz DDR3 Memory

Please reference the release notes of the software.
Unfortunately due to changes Canon has made with their SDK the Canon 5D is no longer supported tethered. This change occurred in late 2010.

As a workaround you can use the Canon EOS Utilities to tether the Canon 5D and then use the "Hot Folder" feature in Capture One.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do understand that the MkI is no longer officially supported, but it had been working well through C1 right up until this release (it was actually my prime camera until just two weeks ago), so I was wondering if there were any settings or anything that I would be able to change. I'll just have to use it through Canon Utilities.

If your previous software installation was Capture One 5.2.1 then the tethered workflow with the 5D would have worked. It has never been supported in Capture One 6. I apologize but there is no settings within the software that can change this as it is attributed to the Canon Supplied SDK.

We've only ever owned C1 version 6.x - our first purchase was in December 2010. Tethering with our old 5D MkI had been working fine - with just occasional loss of connection - up until a couple of weeks ago, even if it wasn't officially supported.

Using the hot folder function with Canon's own software is working fine now, thanks for the suggestion.

Somehow I'm afraid it's a Mountain Lion thing.
I got it working under the new C1 under Lion.
Recently did the upgrade to ML and everything still works with the Credo back but the 5DMKIII whatever I do will just say "attaching camera" and hang from there.

Works fine in the EOS utility however.
Both on MacPro and MBP retina.
Worked under Lion, same setup under ML no go.

Maybe Phase One could check this ?

For me Canon 5D mark 3 is not connecting to Capture One 6.4.3 on my Macbook Pro or on my Mac Pro Tower, both running 10.5.8.

Tried all combinations of starting Capture One first and then turning on camera and reversing order.

Camera shows up in Image Capture and in the system profiler.

    Bud,
Please reference the release notes, Canon does not support tethering in their new SDK under the 10.5.x OS. Please update to 10.6 or 10.7.

Frank, the OP is not using Mountain Lion but rather Snow Leopard (10.6).

I would suggest that both you and the OP create support cases for further clarification.

    OS 10.7.4
    C1PRO 6.4.3
    5D MK3

havent had the time to shoot tethered with this set up until today.
things work fine until the camera goes to sleep and when it tries to reconnect the software says that it can not "recognize the attached camera".

the only solution seems to be re-launching the app.

    anyone else getting this?

..sorry to elaborate on the above inquiry, with previous setups (mk2) > camera would go to sleep, but once woken the app would hunt for a connection and eventually connect...not in my case with a mk3....

    any ideas?

    10.6.8
    6.43
    5dMk III

I also noticed after the camera goes to sleep, you change lenses, or even just try to turn off/on the camera you can no longer successfully tether until you restart the app... so bogus.

I am having similar problems with a current Macbook Pro on Mountain Lion and having tried Capture One v6.0, v6.4.5 and even 4.6.1.
It has been pointed out that CO v.6 should not work with Canon 5D mk1 but I ran the combination quite smoothly on my previous Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard.
I have a pre-Intel G5 running OS 10.5.8 and Capture One 4.6.1. When I open Capture One I am reminded that the computers processor will not work properly with the Capture One software, basically because it is not an Intel unit. I switch on the Canon mk1 and get perfect capture and camera control and the same from my mk2.
I switched from Nikon to Canon on the advice of a Phase One supplier and another photographer, I was informed that Canon was the primary camera system to be supported by Capture One, so why have Phase One now dropped the 5D mk1? I know of many photographers who still rely on mk1 as a back up and many who still use it as a main camera.
Upgrading software with tools some will never use is all very nice but why should I have to retire a perfectly good camera to buy a newer model because Apple or Phase One have launched another upgrade?

It was Canon who dropped support for the older model in both their own EOS Utility and their 3rd party tool which resides in Capture One.
