The true cost of Media Pro for Nikon/Mac users?
As I've learned from these forums, Media Pro does not support raw files edited with Nikon Capture NX2 on the Mac platform. Phase One's response is "use our Capture One software instead," so I conclude that the true cost of Media Pro is as follows (for new users):
for Windows: USD 199
for Mac: USD 328*
*requires purchase of Capture One Express (additional USD 129) to edit/preview NEF files.
To avoid this additional cost I suppose could change my workflow by creating JPEG variants for preview/gallery purposes, but at considerable cost in terms of labor and inconvenience. So I would like to know if my conclusion above is essentially valid for a workflow that relies on edited NEFs as the master files. Am I wrong?

Did you consider switching to DNG?

No, because I assume I would have to abandon Nikon Capture NX2 for an Adobe product. DNG won't recognize my historical NEF edits so I would have to find another solution and/or create derivatives. More derivative files means more file management and more headaches (or at least more effort than I think is necessary). As Peter Krogh said on the DAM forum, "Capture NX workflow is pretty much incompatible with DNG."0 -
This is a large problem and a main reason why I use DNG and products that support it = like LR... Once I edit an image, I'm unlikely to EVER go back and edit it again.. but, I use DNG to embed the preview and metadata into the file and my DAM application can now show me the exact edits it contains... Note to LR =- can you PLEASE allow an option of only writing the PREVIEW to the file and not the METAdata... so I can use my DAM to control Metadata and LR to write the preview...? 0 -

You say "my DAM application" but don't mention EM2/Media Pro; is that your DAM application?
I frequently go back to my raw images for re-editing, or occasionally for new versions (embedded in the NEF), which is why I like Capture NX2. I also rely on EM2 for custom Web galleries (custom fields, custom Javascript, etc.), which I believe are not possible in LR.0 -

No.. not at this time.. I use Idiamger which manages NEF previews/thumbnails really well.0
