C1 8.3.4 & Canon EOS 5DS - Dropping Connection
Hi Guys!
I'm struggling to get a reliable connection to my Canon 5Ds in Capture One (8.3.4)
I'm using a brand new MacBook Pro laptop (15") and new cables (usb 3.0 & tested all work OK) and I'm still having drops here and there, when it works it's great but it seems to drop randomly (especially when shooting quickly) It then does not want to reconnect and I have to unplug & reconnect the cable or in some instances restart Capture One or do a full system restart?
It seems to freak out when I shoot quickly or fire off a burst.
I'm using a 15ft cable (usb 3.0) and a tether boost (powered) so it's not usb 3.0 power related. I've also tried using multiple cables as I always carry spares. I've tried multiple cables as well and all seem to have this error (tried 5 cables) so I am certain it is USB port or software related.
Just wondered if anyone else was having similar trouble with the 5DS or 5DSR? I've deleted EOS utility to make sure there is no clash of drivers etc.
Thanks for any suggestions/help

Could you tell us about your OS version? I personally found 10.10(.0), 10.10.1, 10.10.2 and 10.11(.0) quite unreliable with respect to USB power. For some cameras as well as for some USB storage.
I am not using 5DS or 5DSR, so I cannot tell something about them specifically. But I've got some experience with a number of other Canons. And I have seen this behavior before.
On the hardware side, the tether boost should indeed solve any bus power issue.
On the software side, make sure no other software interferes with the camera connection. Therefore set the auto-start in Image Capture to 'No Application' (no. not even to 'Capture One'). Auto-starting on connection will prevent CO from accessing the camera on re-connection and wake-up. If you run any other software in the background, make sure it isn't hijacking the connection. For example for reading the camera's card, like Image Capture, iPhoto, Photos. Or for it's own tethering, like the EOS utility you already deleted.

Thanks Hans, I appreciate the suggestions. Have spent a while getting rid of any software that wasn't necessary which might have been conflicting and I think things seem to be a lot more secure now - think it was mainly a EOS utility conflict!
Seems to be secure so far, thanks!0
