4.6 crash when deleting variant, plus some odd behavior aftr
Preface: I am not opening a support case as I didn't recall exactly what I did, nor have I found it a recurring problem (and I haven't tried hard to check either). Just posting it here to see if anyone has had similar situation. This is not a complaint, a bug report nor a request for a fix, just a curiosity.
I created a variant of an image. Then I created a clone variant. I then deleted the original non-clone-variant and CO crashed with error message to send automatic email to PO (which I didn't as PC is not permanently connected to internet)
The curious part is that now when I select that and only that image multiview does not work anymore (the mulitview icon can be made orange, but it still displays single view) I can still open the tree of variants in the list view and select each if desired by clicking on them. But I can't shift-arrow thru the variants like I can for other images either. Mulitview and shift-arrow works for other images with variants.
I wonder if the way to fix this is to delete the .COS file (although i can't recall at the moment if I can know which one) and have CO regenerate it.
PC is Intel QuadCore WinXP SP3. Canon 30D.
If I can recreate I will open support case and provide detailed system info, etc.

My understanding of the Variants concept is that as soon as you create mulitple Variants of an image, there is no 'original' variant. This also becomes clear when you start shifting variants (demoting, promoting). What you see in a preview is a combination of raw data and (adjusted) meta data. Creating variants creates multiple sets of meta data on single set of raw data.[quote="Alex111" wrote:

CO4 treats multiple variants of one image the same as multiple images in the multi view and navigation. To see multiple variants of a single image, you need to select those variants to be displayed next to each other in multi view mode. This is nice if you imagine the following example: I make 2 shots (different exposures), make a new variant of each shot, having 4 different variants. Select all, displayed all 4 in multi view. Navigation works the same for individual images or variants of multiple variants of a single image: Ctrl+arrow, not Shift+arrow.[quote="Alex111" wrote:

Yes. Multiple variants of an image are stored in a single .COS file which becomes bigger with every additional variant and shrinks when variants are deleted. I think a corrupted .COS file might have started a chain of events resulting in a crash.0 -

I created the first variant from the 'original', then the 2nd clone variant from the 'original' again (not from the first variant I created.
I understand that one needs to select multiple images to see them in multiview. That was my concern, that even when I selected all three variants, only the first original showed up in multiview. For other images when I do this I can see the 2-4 that I selected in multiview.
I use Shift-Arrow to move between images. Maybe this works because I switched to 3.7 key shortcuts?

Shft+arrow is indeed the 3.7 shortcut. Regarding your other remarks, I do not understand why it behaves like you describe. I can't replay this. 0 -
I too had a similar crash .... right after deleting a variant.
I elected to have the crash data sent to PhaseOne, and I added comments describing the actions taken (i.e., deleting a variant) just before the crash.
I did not do any follow up on the remaining variant to see if there was a problem with multiple views (and, unfortunately, I've forgotten which image I was working on so I can't go back now and try some tests).
However, there may be a bug associated with deleting variants (hopefully the crash data that was sent to PhaseOne will help to find it).0
