    Welcome in C1 world!
I have always had the same problem, and so, had always use Photo mechanic for editing. (so easy and quick! never crash)
There is nothing better than photo mechanic for editing.(and more)
You can share the tags between Photo Mec. and C1, so it's still easy to work with.

while i don't use Photomechanic...I'm guessing it displays the camera jpeg (as some browsers I use do)...whereas COne needs to build a preview (and write it to disk) that can be used for adjustments in COne...

That process has gotten faster over time, but likely will never be as fast as using the thumbs from the camera. The upside is that the adjustments you make in Cone are totally acurate, and related to the camera profile used by COne. And once built, they load much faster when the session/folder is reopened...

...the above is another user's observation....I certainly have no insight into the future of COne's programing...and while it would not be a feature I would use...perhaps a browser mode (using the thumbs only) on initial download WITHOUT allowing adjustments until the mode was switched would be something users would like....

...just prepare for support on the Topic "CoOne won't allow adjustments...Why?" ....<g>.....

I use PhotoMechanic everyday in conjunction with Capture One and never had the urge to compare them as I leave apples and orange apart as well.

These are two entirely different tools, with their distinct purpose, albeit some overlap (better than a gap).

John4 is right in that PM displays the built-in JPEGs and fortunately for his 5D mkII raws, these are full-res ready to go RGB images. Not much work involved to display. PM does read nor convert the raw data (but knows the metadata part of the raw file very well).
Capture One on the other hand reads for each image file the full raw data, converts to a preview, displays and stores it. That is a hell of a job compared to PM's JPEG reading. After first opening preview generation is done and browsing should be faster in CO, but still not comparable to what PM is doing.

PM is great for importing, metadata editing, selecting and rating (and let CO do the preview generation in the background). CO is great in adjusting raw and processing to RGB file format.

I agree with you Paul, that's why I'm using both, C1 and PM.
If I have to check the sharpness very quickly of a lot's of images, I do it in PM, because there is NO delay for 100% display of the image. Of course it's a jpeg, but it's enough! (you can choose between jpeg or raw preview in PM)

    Hey Guys,
Thanks for the replies. It is a nice quick 2 step with MP and Capture I guess. (one I wished I knew of YEARS ago!)
What & how do the rating and selects flow thru to C1? That could be really Helpful.

Are there any other useful joint uses of the two programs an Under the Gun Tech could make use of?
    Every little bit Helps!!

    Thanks again,
    Steve

    Steve,

I am not a real Photo Mechanic die hard, but I think that the secret is in the XMP side car file. You can have PM write into the raw file only or bot in raw file and side car file. The latter option let you transfer rating. I paste a screen shot of PM preferences for the relevant setting.

Check it out, and maybe another PM user can correct or confirm.
