Best performance for catalog and files

    Hi,

The first option is the best, as it is cheaper, as Capture One needs original files only for special tasks (local adjustments, conversion/export into TIFF or JPEG,...). Most of the adjustments don't require originals, which can thus stay on an external HDD.
The application and the catalog work better when on the internal PCI SSD.
Of course backups are to be done regularly....

    Thanks.
And what do you think when working with a session?

I run my recent sessions on my internal HDD. Older ones I move to an external HDD for reasons of space. I can still use them there though possibly it is a little slower. I have plenty of space on the external HDD (only used for older C1 sessions and my iTunes library). If your external HDD is running out of space you could consider either replacing it with a larger one (comparatively cheap these days) or adding a second one.

I have aliases in my Pictures folder pointing to the older sessions folders on the external HDD so that they all appear in Pictures in an unbroken run.

Working with a session means that C1 is working with the original file and not with a preview of the image - right?
So, putting the image files on a fast SSD would be faster.
    Right?

My workflow is: putting new images in folders > in a C1 session I am sorting out bad images > doing basic adjustments > moving images to the other images (on a HDD) > importing into C1 catalog.

So the viewing an sorting out process should be faster. Thinking of doing this with an extra SSD on the SATA bus.

No, working with a session uses a preview, and that is faster than it would be if it had to work with the original file all the time. Mostly it doesn’t need to refer back to the original file.
