I'm in the final stage of using C1 Pro trial and I'm having an issue with using using Opencl with my Nvidia FX 4600. With OpenCL, C1 is pretty snappy. The only problem I'm having is that the screen flicks on and off and when processing files, the final files are 8k in size.

I'm about to switch over to C1 from Lightroom and Silkypix. The skintones with C1 are the best of all of them. However, I'm not sure if I need a new video card, it's really worth the investment. Is it possible to use my Quadros FX 4600 successfully with C1. I'm using the latest drivers with the card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the screen flickering when processing. Can you explain a little more about that ? Maybe do a screen capture movie?

Regarding your card, then if I was in your shoes, I would consider buying a new one, f.x. GTX 670 or GTX 680. The Quadro cards aren't faster for CO, just more expensive 😉

A little hint on skin-tone, watch this tutorial that has a section on the Color Editors Skin Tone tool and how to use it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?list=SPDMR ... age#t=197s

Thanks for your reply. What's your opinion on the GTX 660 instead? The other two are a little above my price range. As for the flickering, what happens is that the screen goes dark, comes on, goes dark like a blink. I'm not sure how to do a screen movie. This happens for the entire computer as long as I have C1 open. I assume it has trouble with open cl working with C1.

I looked at the video. I assume the changes are subtle, because I didn't see a huge improvement. The skintones and white balance are very good in C1. This is the reason why I am thinking of purchasing C1 and using it as my primary raw converter.

    Thanks in advance.

The 660 is nice as well. If possible get the 660 Ti version. It's a good bit faster than the std. 660.

As for the screen flickering, what version of CO are you running ?

Thanks for the help. I'll look into the ti version. My hardware guy recommended it too.

I'm running C1 7.1.1 my trial runs out on Wednesday and I have to decide what I want to do. If it had a healing brush like LR 5 beta, it would be perfect. Otherwise, I'm considering it just for the WB and skintones. The highlight recovery is very good. LR4 still has the edge over C1 but not by much. As instructed by your tutorial, using the clarity tool makes it very, very good.

    Thanks for the help.

Question. What's your opinion on the 650 ti? My hardware guy recommended that one.

    Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't go for the 650 ti, even an older 560 ti seems to be faster than 650 ti.

With regards to your flickering, if it keeps happening with your new card, I would really like you to create a support-case with our Support Dept. The flickering should of course not occur.

Thanks for the advise. I'm not a gamer, so I don't need the power. I'm only going to get a new card for the purpose of using C1. Thanks for the tip on the 560 ti. That sounds doable.

I'll report back if I still get the flickering issue. My real concern is the processing issue. Coming back to find 500 processed files with most of them with an 8k file size can be troubling. Turning off Opencl fixes the problem but the process time takes forever. Having said that, C1 is still the best raw converter for a portrait photographers and I should know ow, I have them all.

    Thanks again.

Well, you do need the power for CO. Basically, the faster a card would be for gaming, the faster it would be for CO (with some exceptions like physx and so on).

The flickering issue is related to your black/small output issue, which is why I want you to immediately report back, if you get it with a newer card.

Thanks for the update. I see that the flickering and file output are related. The problem does go away as soon as you turn off Opencl, but the output time is very slow compared to other programs.

Any chance that my issue with the FX 4600 can be resolved? It appears that every Quadros card is approved on your website except the 4600.

I'll report back if I decide to upgrade the video card.

    Thanks for the info.
