    Hi,

Welcome to the forum and the Capture One world.

    1) I have many photos on my hard drive under folders and sub-folders. Can I simply import all of them into C1? I don't want them to copy or move anywhere, just to have them all imported to C1 so I can work on them. I can't imagine I have to select every photo.

Short answer: yes. This blog for starters on Capture One Catalog might help you too.

    2) Most of my photos are at high ISO and I usually leave the sharpness around default (25) in Lightroom and use the Masking, which helps to remove the sharpness form the grain. I don't use NR at all. Is there something equivalent in C1? Or do I have to play with sharpness and NR to find a balance? Or am I missing something?

You can set both sharpening and noise reduction to any default you like from the tool's action menu. Also, you can use both tools on selected areas of your image with adjustments layers.

    3) In Lightroom I use the Black and While sliders and also raise Highlight (i.e. make hiighlights brighter). In C1 the Hightlights and Shadows can only go in one direction. I imagine something like the Levels tool can be used instead?

You are right! This blog on the Levels tool might help you to unleash its potential.

    4) I use the Vignette tool, which in LR has a lot of control over the center, the feathering, etc. C1 only has an amount. Is there a way to do something similar to the LR options?

You can use an adjustments layer for that. Sounds complicated but is fairly easy with a large brush. Once you have made the mask, you can move it, and invert it if that is easier for you.

    Thank you.

Most things are clear now and that catalogue tutorial is good, but I now made some kind of mistake and have a big mess.

First, I remembered that I actually have an export folder inside each photo folder that I don't want in the catalogue. I guess I can remove those folders from the C1 catalogue without deleting them, but I haven't figured out how yet. I don't want to accidentally delete any photo from the hard drive.

The main issue is that the folders are organized in a weird and bad way. I'll try to explain and give an example.
When I imported I chose the main folder called Photos, which is on drive E. There are many sub-folders inside it and inside some of them there are also sub-folders. Instead of showing me this "bracket", I just see each sub-folder under E, without the Photo folder itself.

For example, one of the folders inside Photos is called Wire Tapping (nothing risky... it's a concert series 😄). Inside Wire Tapping there are many folders. I just see the list of those sub-folders under E (in Capture One). It doesn't show me the Photo folder itself at all. So the entire list of sub-folders is just under E, regardless of what folders are above it. In Lightroom it shows me the bracket, just like th Windows browser.

Maybe I'm missing something basic in Capture One that I don't know...?

Yes. I think you are referring to the Folders section in the Library tool of CO8. By default, the path hierarchy is hidden.

Click on the three horizontal dots in the upper right corner of the Library tool (in the header of the tool, actually). This will open the tool's action menu. Choose "Show Folder Hierarchy". Tadaaaa...!

Thanks, that little change solved it! I must have missed the few seconds when it was mentioned in one of the tutorials... 😊

Now I just need to see if I can get used to some things. For example the slider moving a lot, without the ability to move on the number it where it moves only a little. I also get a bug if I use the scroll wheel to slide WB to the left, it gets sort of stuck around 2800 (but works if I drag it with the mouse).
I like the top icons as opposed to the "menu" in Lightroom where sometimes you have to scroll to get where you want.

As for sliders, you can highlight it by clicking on the mouse or pressing the tab key till the numerical values next to the slider are highlight.

Next, press the up and down cursor keys for small increments, or hold the Shift-key while pressing the cursor keys for larger increments.

Some sliders have a shortcut key. Look for it in the shortcut summary in the Help menu.
