Accessing the catalogs over a network will cause problems...corrupted catalogs, extremely slow performance and media pro has a hard time keeping things in order when two people are working on the same catalog.

We do what you are setting up except the catalogs are stored on the server and users (editors) download the catalog to their computer. After making changes or additions to the catalog, it is verified and put back on the server as a master file.

    Another thought...
When the catalog is run from the desktop computer the Images can be downloaded across a network.

    Thanks for your advice.

I'm presuming that only one person uses the catalog at a time by that method then, otherwise how do you avoid overwriting issues? Also does the software provide a web interface for viewing and downloading images?

I'm going to fire it up today on my machine and have a play with it on a network share.

We use the "merge catalogs" feature.
Only one person handles the master catalog. Their job is to take the catalogs with changes and merge them into the master catalog. If everything checks out a working copy of the master is put back on the server.

We use jAlbum and our own servers for the web interface.
Jalbum uses what they call "skins ". The skin controls the look and behavior of the gallery/web page. The Turtle skin has a keyword search and password feature. You can modify or create your own skin. It is amazing software....anyone can make awesome web galleries in a matter of minutes.
