C1 - Now My Primary 'Tool' For Conversions
No major problem to report, just some positive feedback: (ok, ramblings 😄 I'm in a talkative mood today)
Over the years I’ve used (and purchased) many different raw converters. I was a beta tester for C1 years ago when I had my Fuji S2, then the S3 and S5, and last year I switched to Nikon (D700). Although I was pleased with the results produced by C1, I continued to look for something better, and my ‘toolkit’ seemed to grow: Lightroom, PhotoShop, DXO, and Nikon’s NX2 are now my primary tools, in addition to C1. I could never settle on just one package to use, and recently it’s come down to primarily using DXO and C1. My complaint with C1 (versions 3 and 4) with the Fuji raw files is that I really couldn’t get the noise reduction settings right, and results were either plastic looking, or I had to followup with noise reduction in PhotoShop. With the D700, I have no reservations shooting at ISO 6400 and letting either DXO or C1 handle the noise, although in my very primitive testing DXO does a better job at noise reduction, but I like C1’s user interface better, and ultimately the end result. Last weekend I shot approx. 300 shots at two different community concerts (choral and symphony) and converted them all with C1 (V5) . (I let the ISO float – majority at 6400). I was very pleased with the results and had only a few shots that needed some additional work in PhotoShop. (I have to admit that I am far from an expert with C1 and really have to spend some time really learning the ‘ins and outs’ better) So, after all these years, it looks like that finally C1 is going to be my primary tool in my digital darkroom. (at least for the conversions).
BTW – only problem I have is that sometimes Batch does not start (yes, even after pressing process) – I have to go to batch tab and Stop batch then hit process again – no big deal.
