New version announcements
Would it not be more user friendly and useful to put into the Announcement Forum (top of threads) a new thread that says that a new version is now available and a link to the download area rather than users having to continually trawl to see if there is one ?
Just a thought.
Just a thought.

There is an update trigger in Capture One 6 already. Maybe that helps. 0 -

True, but it would be nice to know about updates to the software anyway without necessarily having to open it - especially if I'm away from my own machine for a while on business, for example.
A new release does, after all, seem to be an eminently appropriate thing to "announce".0 -
Good suggestion, especially if the update news is accompanied by the release notes so we know whether or not it even makes sense to update. 0 -

Yes thanks Paul I know that feature but I'd rather have the option to know about the upgrade and what it contains before I install it.
Having the information here so I can read the release notes and then decide that there is something there that is useful for me is much better.0 -
I support the idea. I think communicating new releases is an area Phase One could improve performance with mutual benefit.
Why should a user go through the hassle of downloading and installing a new release when the benefits are not clear or not known. Many users I see here and during trainings run a previous (and often long overdue) release of the program (in general, not Capture One or Phase One specific). One a few nerds like myself and a few others here jump on any maintenance release. 😁
Better communication about releases is a tool and additional help, not the final solution to make the masses update in time. But for those who are willing, it is a great help.0 -
Still no sticky at top of threads so we can easily find out if there has been a new release.

Thanks for the info Drew.
But too bad the Release Notes just don't open… 🤬0 -

Thanks Drew. 😉
But it would be better as a sticky!! 😂0 -
I think that Phase One is being short-sighted in not broadcasting general announcements of each upgrade of Capture One, not the least of which is that they miss out on free publicity that comes from such announcements being posted on photo websites such as Dpreview. It seems that almost every week, I see DPR touting an upgrade of some other program (e.g. DxO, Lightroom, etc) but rarely for C1. This keeps C1 under the radar for tens of thousands of potential users.

Yes that would be a useful additional publicity.
The market is so competitive that every bit of publicity counts.0 -
I think it is difficult for a company to carry themselves as a solution for the few who can spend a five figure bundle on a camera and also as a tool for the masses. I'm sure there is a lot of internal conflict over this. 0 -
I'm not sure that Phase One's presence in two different markets is really relevant to the discussion here about their apparent unwillingness to make updates to Capture One more visible to users, without the need to jump through what should be unnecessary hoops, Rick. 0 -
Hi Keith,
Yes, I was responding to the idea of using the announcements as another way of advertising. I think it's a good idea, but I just have this feeling there is a faction within Phase One that doesn't like selling to the masses. Sorry to go off-topic.0 -
Ah - I see what you mean, Rick.
Thanks for clarifying.0
