Problems - C1 Processing of RAW from Canon 10D & 20D
I am presently in my one-month trial of Capture One for Windows, V. 3.6. In the course of processing several dozen photographs, I have found the following problems with Phase One Capture One software with Canon 10D and 20D images:
1) C1 insists on resizing/cropping images to other than their native format. 10D and 20D images always have a length/width ratio of 3:2. For 10D images, that is 3072x2048 pixels; for 20D 3504x2336. C1 resizes these to 3084x2048 and 3504x2332, respectively. This is unacceptable.
2) No Canon white balance presets. Both Canon’s own “Digital Photo Professional†software and Adobe’s RAW Converter have a drop-down menu of the Canon white balance presets. No such facility in C1.
3) Changes to RAW files are apparently not saved. Both DPP and Adobe’s RC save changes made to RAW files, Canon’s by actually saving the changed file, and Adobe’s to a “sidecar†XMP file. I have tried using C1’s “Save†and “Save As†menu choices but to no effect. Nothing in the Help files indicates how to save the changes to RAW files, except to a TIFF file, which is not the same thing and uses unacceptably large disk resources.
4) C1 lacks the ProPhoto RGB color space available in Adobe RC.
5) Adobe RC “Advanced†mode offers several features not offered by C1.
Anyone have comments or knows what I'm overlooking? At this point, these problems/deficiencies are serious enough that I will probably not pay the $500 to continue using C1 beyond the trial.

Mr. Haynes,
1> This is a known issue and will be fixed for the next release
2> 20D and Mk II WB is fixed and ready with v3.7 while 10D WB is getting Immediate attention. No official word if this will make the next release. C1’s White Balance tool ability is remarkable.
3> No, the original RAW files are left unaltered completely. Users can decide if this is Good 😄 or Bad 😡 .
Studios with various image outputs most likely are grateful.
Please know that any adjustments are applied to the file upon Processing; and these data can be saved into a file. They can be restored and applied to the RAW files upon reloading an archived Session.
See Workflow > and Selected Capture Settings and the Archive Settings to save file to folder.
4> Capture One Pro does have the ProPhoto RGB .icm file in the choices, see the Workflow and Color Management settings available
5> Be sure you have not overlooked other tools, functions, and features that are within Capture One. The Knowledg Base aricles on the web site can help as well as the tutorials.
...Version 3.7 will allow tethering with all Canon EOS cameras ❗️
Sincerely,
k c0
