Capture One Express vs. Media Pro or + Media Pro?

Good question, i doubt anyone outside of Phase One knows. This is really about the future of Media Pro. Perhaps no one in Phase One actually knows.

Id' like to know as well.

Even at it's current state, Media Pro's catalog beats Capture One's at this point in time. For one, it accepts many more file formats.

Media Pro was recommended to me. After reading about the uncertainty, I'm now seeking something else.
The murkiness here will prevent me from commiting to (e.g. purchasing) either product.

I do not blame you at all and anyone with any sense would stay away, the murkiness here now make me regret buying into CO7 and MP.

My feeling exactly. I bought into the initial marketing hype and promises of Media Pro.
However, my overall productivity with Lightroom v5 is much higher, and I've pretty much switched to that full time, though I prefer the conversion of CO7.

Of course, if LR works for you, then great. But, even though we are "yearning" for more out of P1, the two pieces of software didn't stop working suddenly. I know, i'm not experiencing some of the quirks a number of you seem to be having. But, i did thoroughly investigate what MP needs (CO as well, btw) and sized my system and workflow to that.

What i like is that MP supports more than just photo and video, which helps me. Still the integration between MP and CO is working for me, although i'd know some improvements i'd like.

I'll be frank though, i'm investigating Photo Supreme at this time to see what it can do for me in case MP doesn't make it.

I have Photo Supreme. To me, Media Pro was better and I don't love Media Pro.
They are constantly updating Photo Supreme and it gets a little better every time. So in time, it may be super.

What I don't like about Photo Supreme is that its slow, the metadata is sketchy, and the user interface is less than optimal.
By "slow" I mean the rendering of the images acts a lot like C1's catalog. When you scroll they have to re-render. I guess this is petty, but the way I see it is: if LR can do it so can (insert software here).

Once you get it, C1 v.7.X and MP are really very efficient. And images are more query-able in MP than I could ever get LR to be.

One of the keys to both programs is to customize your toolbars as much as possible. Once you make it fit you it becomes very quick.

Only use LR for the Leica images now since its out-of-box rendering is preferable. Still use MP for reference however. Very fast, finds dupes far better than LR too.

I know most of you realize this, but will say it anyway. Media Pro does not hold images. Just addresses of where they reside. But if you also use it to move and physically organize your images it is very powerful. Far more useful to me than LR, but YMMV... 😎

    Every DAM does, like Lightroom.
Ohterwise it would be a browser (like bridge)

I would like PhaseOne to take MP serious too, i like the way it works more than Lightroom.
However, i'm still waiting so long for this to happen. I not longer count on it so i'm orientating on Lightroom now.
I do not recognise your comments on efficiency and query-able. I'm using LR 5 and it 'feels' as snappy as MP does and it handles 'big' images (100 Mb negative scans i.e) a lot better.

    My interest is in

[*] A supported product, with periodic updates.
[*] Hierarchical tagging (for use in species identification).
[*] Rock solid ability to export metadata in a form other software can import.
[*] Duplicate and missing image detection so if anything goes funny I'm notified.
[*] Fast tagging, sorting, browsing and searching.

PhotoSupreme? Digikam? PhotoZora? Some open source web dam?

    Currently restricted to OS X.
And I suppose at this time, with 11,000 photos tagged in Media Pro, that seamless import/transfer is needed.

I'm trying out Photo Supreme which worked sort of, but there's a bug:
