    Read the release notes.
V3 settings cannot be used. Just keep v3 installed along with v4.

From a business standpoint, it makes no sense not to have the option of importing v3 settings -- unless existing users don't count in the marketing strategy.

Not allowing me to use the hundreds of thousand of settings I've already created over the last 5 years is the same as asking me to totally re-evaluate my software selection from a raw processing perspective because the new software is INCOMPATIBLE with the previous version.

In other words, you are not looking at your current user base for upgrade sales but rather hoping that new users "starting fresh" will replace the potential existing loyal user base that would have upgraded.

It is really a shame that the person in charge of marketing did not think importing previous settings was THE KEY feature to have...

Well, I can't see that it should be the 'key feature' to have as you can still use your v3 as you did previously.
    Anyway, have a look at

I very much agree. The moment I buy a new piece of software and decide on using it means a kind of commitment as well: I commit to learn and use the new workflow, the new features and the new keyboard shortcuts.

Having to load an old version of the same software every time when working with older files defeats the entire idea outlined above.

It's very hard to understand why Phase One didn't include at least a manual settings import feature, especially in light of the fact that someone has managed to write that piece of software in his free time.

Fortunately for me I can't be arsed to start using Capture One 4 just yet - thanks to it's many user interface weaknesses and unbearable slowness of controls. Hopefully Phase One will incorporate the settings import feature as well as bringing the level of 4 to usable in the near future, so when I upgrade my DSLR I won't be forced to use some other RAW converter.
