output folder selection
Hi I have just started having issues with processing out to the correct output folder. CO is not outputting to the folder I select? and ideas would help. I have recently installed 7.0.2 but this also has not helped.
cheers

Check the advanced settings of your recipe, perhaps you have a output location specified for that recipe in particular. 0 -

Same as above. The output folder reverts to last one used and not within the new session. This used to work fine in CO6 but why not anymore?0 -
I have experienced the same issue with the output folder selection, to the extent that C1-7 recreated the old output folder even when it was deleted when the output destination is set in 'Output Location'
Yes the issue is addressed by selecting the correct 'Root Folder' under 'File' in 'Process Recipe', but this does not translate to the more visible and intuitively understood 'Output Location'.
I am a long time user of and advocate for Capture One, but have found the launch of C1-7 unbelievably frustrating, and resent the arrogance of asking upgrading users to pay upfront for a product that was far from ready for release.0 -
So basically it's bollocks! 0 -
@dmhelsby, @pwhyte,
Can you both confirm you have the issue with 7.0.2?
I have been looking into the output folder question quite detailed recently with 7.0.2/Mac on both session and catalogs.
Basically it works as CO6 but confusion lies just around the corner.
First thing to check is what the Process Recipe > File tab > Root Folder setting is. Next, whether you use the Sub Folder feature on the same tab.
Understand that ...
... when you set Root Folder > Output Folder you can control the Output Folder from the Output Location tool (and Library tool/File menu for sessions)
... when you set Root Folder > Image Folder or > selected folder you can not control the Output Folder from the Output Location tool (and Library tool/File menu for sessions)
If you still have questions, please provide details about you use session/catalog, the settings mentioned and the results.0 -
Hello Paul,
I am on 7.01. Will upgrade to 7.02. I assume these issues are to do with the move to Catalogs vs Sessions. I use exclusively Sessions in my work flow.
I do not think C1 is bollocks. It is still a great product that suits my workflow perfectly. But I can not remember such a frustrating and buggy version upgrade of any of the programs I use.
Will let you know if I continue to have issues.0 -
I'll be more specific! I'm a CO user since version 1 so have considerable mileage with this product.
What frustrates me are these upgrades that cause issues with our workflow.
7.0.2 kept crashing nearly every time I tried to process a jpeg last week. I've even downloaded version 6 as a backup.
Phase One, please don't release upgrades until they have been tried and tested. It's not for the end user to be the guinea pig.0 -
Well I am Gobsmacked! Upgraded to 7.02.
I am working in sessions. Allocated Output folder for hrTifs. Processed tifs. All fine.
Needed to process some previewJpgs of selected files as well.
Went to Library>System Folders>selected new folder>selected SET AS OUTPUT FOLDER
Cog icon appeared next to folder.
Checked under Process Recipes>Output Location - it had changed correctly.
Processed selected files - AND THEY WENT TO THE HRTIFS FOLDER!
Now am I missing something here, or is that not illogical, non-intuitive and ridiculous. If that is the incorrect approach, then C1 - 7 should not allow the change to be made that way. If it one of several ways to skin a cat, then such selections should apply across the board. Why is there not just one consistent logical place to allocate/change/update Output Folders that applies Session/Catalog wide, instead of several non-referencing illogical options?
Can someone from Capture One please clearly articulate the logic behind the changes to what was a stable intuitive workflow.0 -
Me too. Had me stumped for a chunk of the day. Two ways to spec an output folder, and one overrides the the other. One somewhat hidden. Did not find this fine point in the documentation, but I read fast when in a hurry in a job. Files kept popping up in the last clients shared dropbox folder. What a Pain!
Thank god for crowd sourced forums. Could not survive this business with out them. Thank you all above.
Not really sure about the catalogue model for project based shooting. Works for iPhoto, but........

pwhyte,
The key is - as I describe in my previous post few days back - the setting in Process Recipe > File tab > Root Folder drop-down list (not the Output Location tool setting).
Can you look at this setting, as it may seem that it is not set to Output Folder but instead to HRTIFS folder.

Setting this to the Output Folder is necessary if you like to control the folder from Output Location tool or Library tool, as you did.
However, if you created different recipes for the TIFs and JPEGs (instead of changing a single recipe each time you switch from tiff to jpeg) you can set the output folder here by selecting 'Select Folder ...' from the drop-down list. Set it differently for each recipe.
The setting in this Root Folder field overrules the setting in the Library and Output Location tools.0 -
Thanks for your persistence. I did understand the difference between Process Recipe>File>Root Folder and Output Folder, and the need to create separate recipes. I rarely do anything except process full sized tifs, so do not need different recipes.
The key bit of information from you was:
'The setting in this Root Folder field overrules the setting in the Library and Output Location tools.'
Thanks Paul0
