Convert to B&W: Method in Adobe ACR uses HSL/Grayscale slide

One more question relating to Adobe ACR and CO 5.02 Pro.

I use ACR to convert my images to B&W. My method is from one I saw Katrin Eismann present where she goes to the HSL/Grayscale tab and selects the Saturation tab within and removes all the color w/ these sliders and then begins to manipulate the image w/ these sliders bringing out different amounts of gray for a very nice B&W image.

I am extremely new using CO and getting familiar w/ the interface and tools so I am still hunting around and trying to figure all this stuff out.

  Doug,
  You can do essentially the same thing in Capture One.
  Change your Base Characteristics to the B&W Effect, this puts a neutral ICC profile on the image. From there you can adjust the levels and curve color channels (RGB) independent of one another to bring out values of those channels.

  Thanks Drew for following up. A couple questions regarding your approach: 1) How are you starting on this? I found a B&W option on the drop down menu under "Adjustments", "Styles", or on the Color Editor tab if I desaturate the image by dragging the slider to zero. Are these the means to do this or is there another method/tabs to handle this?

  Doug,
  The Style simply de-saturates the image.
  Use "Base Characteristics" and apply a Black and White ICC profile.
