Same here on 2 computers but was able to launch it on my MacBookPro though. I don't think the soft is ready yet. PhaseOne, please fix the crashes as quickly as possible so it will be possible to test it at first within the 30 days.

    Hi,

We are investigating a few reports of crash on start, but I would urge to make a support case if you have issues and provide your crash reports.

    http://www.phaseone.com/en/SupportMain/ ... pport.aspx

For new users/visitors to this forum, or iView/Microsoft customers, this is primarily a user to user forum and while we monitor it, you are not guaranteed to get a quick response unlike with a support case.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

I too crashed on startup, but MediaPro was fine in a new user. I removed all iView/EM-related files from my user Library (look in Application Support and Preferences folders), and MediaPro launched. It must not like something in one of those files!

    Ditto. No worky here either.

It hangs at startup, right after the trial/activate box comes up. If I log in as a new user, it opens a new catalogue right away. Must be some conflict with something popular we all have.

    Filed a support case..

Was asked to remove the folder

    Home>Library>Application Support>Expression Media 2

    and the file:

    Home>Library>Preferences>com.microsoft.expressionmedia2.plist

Not sure if it's going to work, because I'm not going to test it.. I want to trial Media Pro - I don't want to be held to ransom by deleting my existing Expression Media configuration...

I shouldn't have to delete anything from Expression Media for Media Pro to work... Why is Media Pro even accessing those files????

If you are concerned with deleting existing preference files then simply copy them to a new location and remove them from the current location, you can always put them back later. We are accessing these files because we are trying to use the information to properly set up Media Pro to your liking.

I have the same problem here (Media Pro hanging after the trial/activation screen). Moving the EM2 preference file and application support folder to another place didn't solve it. I have sent the crash report with comments to Phase One, is this equivalent to opening a support case, or should I do both?

Mine started just fine on my laptop. I imported a folder which contains 122 raw files and a few .jpgs. It took 30 minutes to update and then it hanged. Now it just hangs when trying to start. Not good. The interface doesn't work with my old eyes either, I find it really hard to read.

I don't know if you use Applejack on OS X?

I tried deleting preference files but Media Pro refused to open.

I restarted and run Applejack and after that no problem. It could of course be the reboot itself that fixed it.

The same thing is happening to me. MediaPro crashes on startup.

Ok, I've moved the EM2 folders and files to a temporary home while I test Media Pro.

I opened an existing catalogue of about 1.5gb in size, with 116,000 files.
I resized 20 thumbnails, clicked on some of the panels on the left (can't stand the 'reflection' style on the tree btw - makes text too unreadable and it's a distraction but at least that's a simple fix later...)

After about 5 minutes, it crashed before giving me chance to save the newly converted catalogue.

Sent the crash report in to Phase One..

If you could, send the Crash Report to the support team in a support case. They'll get back to you within 24 hours (36 hours over a weekend) with some feedback.

This are Mac directories, what folders and files are involved on Win7 systems?
Untill now i tested MP on a test system (win7 32bit) but i wanted to install it on my production environment (win7 64 bit) and the last thing i want is to creat chaos..

    In your user profile:
    ...>username>Application Data>Expression Media 2

    And in the registry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Expression\Media

Probably best to rename folder and registry key rather than deleting outright.

    Thanks Dave!
I will backup the register setting first and rename the folder.
This is very usefull information and it's a pity that it can not be found in the installation documentation or knowledgebase. (i saw a knowledgbase when i filed a support case for this but it seems to be empty).
Your answer is faster then from Phase One support b.t.w. 😉

In the meantime i received this response from support:

    "Hi Roelof,

The issue relates to some squiffy default helper applications and deleting them solves the crash on start with Mac - it only affects the Mac version as far as we know.

    James
    Phase One Support"

So, on Windows it's should not be a problem but i'm taking the earlier mentioned precautions.

Yup.. crashed here too... tried to import 4 images from a folder... Boom... not encouraged by this.. I expect some issues.. but not a crash on import to start right off!

I'm on windows xp by the way.. and even dragging a single JPG into the window crashes the software... not promising at all!

Did they say which helper applications (from within MP1 or "StartUp items") and how to delete them and why? I still have a support ticket open, which is not resolved, yet.

No, they did not mention any further. I quoted all given information...
However, Junction10 (name?) had a response from support:

My support ticket (#88913) was closed immediately by the way...

I read that already and excluded that method by testing it. No changes so far.

    Computer set up:
    – Mac Pro (2009) 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    – 8 GB RAM
    – 1 × 24" Dell screen & 1 × 19" LaCie screen
    – Mac OS X 10.6.7

  • Main (admin) account: Media Pro does not launch further than the «Try Out» screen. Had to «force quit» Application.

  • 2nd (non-admin) account: Media Pro does launch immediately. No further testing (so far).

  • Notes:

    • All preference and «Application Support» files from EM2/iView3 deleted

    • Did 1 × «cleaning» w/ Onyx and 2 × AppleJack

    • Deleted every time after unsuccessful testing the preference and «Application Support» files from MP1

I’m playing «ping pong» w/ the support for 2 ½ days now; my first ticket/case is still open after 2 responses from their (US) support team … still no solution.

Now I try to find the bug by myself right now …

    … I’ll report back here.

    Tested so far:

    Round 1

  • Started computer w/ set (A) of «Login Items» (admin account): MP1 does not launch

  • Started computer w/ set (B) of «Login Items» (admin account): MP1 does not launch

  • Started computer in «Safe Mode» ("cmd-s" during boot) (admin account): MP1 does launch

  • Started computer w/ set (B) of «Login Items» (admin account): MP1 does launch

  • Started computer w/ set (A) of «Login Items» (admin account): MP1 does launch

  • Started computer w/ complete set (A+B) «Login Items» (admin account): MP1 does launch

  • Round 2.1
→ Deleted following preference files and folders (incl. content) before running 2nd test:

    • /Users/

      USERNAME

      /Library/Preferences/com.phaseone.mediapro.plist

    • /Users/

      USERNAME

      /Library/Preferences/com.phaseone.mediapro.settings

    • /Users/

      USERNAME

      /Library/Preferences/Media Pro Import Log

    • /Users/

      USERNAME

      /Library/Caches/com.phaseone.mediapro (folder)

    • /Users/

      USERNAME

/Library/Application Support/Phase One Media Pro (folder)

    Round 2.2

  • Started computer w/ complete set (A+B) «Login Items» (admin account): MP1 does launch

  • = Media Pro 1.0.0.49135 is launching now (in «Try Out» mode). Why it refused to start in the first place: I don’t know. Maybe some buggy cache related things, or the very first run and the try to get the previous EM2 settings — it’s just guessing.

Bottom line for the other Mac users where MP1 refuses to start: Delete the prefs of MP1 and try a restart in «Safe Mode» ("cmd-s" during boot), start MP1 and reboot again.

My next step (Round 3) gonna be to make a «stress test» and Meta Data test w/ MP1 and a comparison w/ EM2.

But Phase One has to come up w/ some explanation and some updates before I even think about buying the upgrade.

After importing 2000 files it crashed and since then crashes always after starting. Very disappointing software again after all the problems with C1 6! Who should want to buy that? (Windows XP 32)

Installed on two computers , fixed and portable , in both ( XP 32 ) crashes when I try to import my files. I had not previously installed Expression Media.

Do we have anything so far on the windows import crash? Can't test if we can't get any images to import...

Upgrade price isn't that bad but I don't have time to be a beta-tester if I'm not even getting paid. I hope (I'm sure) C1 gets it together but at the moment I won't touch it.

Did a performance (and an UI) comparison between Media Pro 1.0.0.49135 and Expression Media 2.0.2 (2096) … guess who won … Expression Media.

Details soon, over here: Comparison between EM2 and MP1 on importing

I received an answer from Phase One support that suggests I boot my mac in 64-bit mode to solve the Media Pro startup crash. I'm posting this with the hope it might help someone, although I couldn't test it. The problem is only a few recent macs can use the 64-bit kernel (this is not the same as running 64-bit applications), and mine isn't one of them. The list is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3770. For me, still no solution.
