Default presets

CO7 does not apply any preset except for a default camera profile (a.k.a. input profile). However, you can have CO7 apply a preset/style on import. See the import dialog to set the style. Note that you can set multiple styles/presets here.

A style could contain a certain custom profile with lower saturation (although I would make that the default profile, instead of making it a preset), high light reduction or metadata.

I have so many questions about doing this. Is there some detailed documentation somewhere? I could not find it in the help file.

For example, how would I go about creating a preset that would only lower the saturation level? Or only raise the shadows? Or only lower the highlights? Or all combined?

I found the style setting in the import dialog box (Thank you for the reference. I had never noticed it before) but that pre-supposes that the styles or presets already exist. None of the existing ones really address my issues but I can't seem to find any information on how to create a preset. Oh, I assume I can take an existing photo, modify the values and save that as a preset but, if I set that in the import dialog, won't that then apply those exact same values to all imported photos?

What I want to do is modify the existing preset (OK - the default camera profile) so that it adjusts those values upon import. I can do that in Dxo OP and I assume it can easily be done in C1, but I just don't know how.

An related question would be - "Is there some place where someone can download some existing presets or styles and then, perhaps, figure out how to create a new one?" Or "Is there a preset creation tool available somewhere?" Or "Is there an explanation somewhere of how to manually create presets or styles?". I have looked in the library folders for C1 and found lots of folders for styles and presets, but they are all empty (except for one and I have no idea where that one came from).

I'd like to know the answer to this question, too, and the answer from Paul does not answer the question. I really wish the support from C1 was more customer-centric rather than posting replies that say "you could do this or you could do that", but don't really answer the question, or more importantly, DOES NOT point customers to the right direction to getting answers.

Stephen - you need to remember that this is a user-to-user forum. Despite his expertise with the software and his status as a Certified Professional, Paul is participating here as a user of the software, not as Phase One staff. If you need to get an answer from Phase One staff, you need to put in a support case. They are generally pretty responsive.

    Stephen,

It's potentially a big subject ... however the basic methods for creating and managing Presets and Styles (Styles can be thought of as a collection of Presets but remember Presets can also be Stacked) are much the same for all cases. A few special situations (metadata for example) have special needs.

    Best perhaps to start here

See how far that takes you and where you feel a lack of clarity you can then pose specific questions that might be more simply answered than attempting to cover the entire subject matter in a single document.

It is possible that you are missing a vital simple link of understanding that makes the whole subject clearer to understand. I know I have been in that situation from time to time. For me the only way to successfully navigate to the higher level of understanding is to break the problem down into separate steps and take each one to a comfort level at which one feels confident to move to the next step.

Once you have your Presets and or Styles in a form that you need you can make them the default(s) per camera or simply set them at import time for selected images. Or just import with defaults and then apply the Presets and Styles you have previously created when you see a need for them.

I hope these suggestions help a little.
