Expression Media keeps crashing
Hi,
I bought Expression Media 3 days ago, but the program keeps crashing every time I work in a catalogue.
That's a disaster, because I have an archive of 5800 images (NEF,DNG,JPG and TIFF).
If the instability is continuing I'm gonna want my money back.
Tried almost everything to solve the problem. After the several error-message 'read only', I have made several new and other catalogues, removed the temp files, I've installed SP1 and SP2, I've switched off 'visual themes', set the thumbnail quality on 'medium', read endless articles in the Phase One Knowledge Base.
Now I don't know it anymore.
My OS is Vista. I have more than enough RAM.
As an experienced user of Capture One 5 Pro software from Phase One, I am used to a high level of quality.
Can't connect that level with the highly instabile Expression Media2 the firm is selling now.

That alone would suggest a simple permissions error accessing the images, which would account for the crashes. I would suggest you move the files to a new location and attempt to create a new catalogue. From there if the crashes continue, the simplest troubleshooting method is to create a new user admin account on your machine, install the software and access the images from that account... if it works, you've narrowed down the cause significantly.0 -
Thanks Drew, I'll give it another try.
I already moved the files several times to a new location and attempt to create a new catalogue but the crashes continue. To create a new user admin account on my machine and install Expression Media once again, will that give me a certain garanty that the whole system won't crash again in, say, one week from now?
I am serious: the sudden instability of EM2 has frightened me.
But, I am a positive person and I'll give it another try.0 -

Software and computers, like life, offer no guarantees.
If that does happen again however, it would elude to an overall issue with the system. Software, in and of itself, does not spontaneously change. It is not a living entity so it does not evolve. What does happen from time to time is that a change elsewhere in the system effects the software or a file it depends on. If the same symptoms repeat themselves it might help us look into what is changing in the system and effecting the software in a negative way.0 -
I uninstalled EM2 this afternoon and installed it again. So far it works good. I keep in mind what you said about monitoring and watching the whole OS-system.
All the best, and thanks again,
