C1 4 Pro Laggy response *FOLLOW UP*
Hello, I jsut wanted to share with anyone intersted that I think I have licked the laggy response issue while using C1 Pro. I was getting very choppy performance, and alot of waiting, pretty frustrating. The issue I have tracked down was to a bad RAM stick on my board. Weird, I know, I have a mac pro and have 20 gigs installed in the forms of 4x 4 gig, and 4x 1 gig. The other day, my system wouldnt wake from sleep, and I tried everythign, reset pram, re seated drives, ram risers, etc, went through apple tech support, and finally brought it in to apple store and they were able to help me nail it down to one of the RAM sticks, took out the pair, and viola, the machine fired back up no problem, and now that im back up and running c1 is runnign fine. So I just wanted to thank all of you for the help, and Im really glad I got it fixed, I suppose that there has been an issue for some time, but really got exaggerated while using that particular program. I was also experienceing a fair amount of photoshop crashes in CS4 etc.
ANyway Thank you again!

Thanks for the heads up. The irony of the story is that Capture One has a record in detecting bad RAM, i.e. only Capture One is slow or unstable on a particular system. Bad RAM however remains largely undetected in real life situations and suggestions in that direction (this does not apply to garibaldi) usually are met with hesitation to say the least. Therefore it is great that this feedback is given and again justifying user forums. 0 -
Thanks Garibaldi
this may help a lot of guys here…
BTW is there any free little app that check RAM?
Kind regards to all0 -
If it were only as easy to spot bad ram as spotting bad fish. No app that I know of to detect it. Well, I guess there was one free app I came across......its the one where the computer doesnt boot up. Dunno if apple has it in the app store though.... hahahaha I am not even going to pretend that I know that side of my machine, but from what I understand , the mac pro uses error correcting ram, so whatever that means. Good thing was that I have ram sticks in all 8 slots, so it was just a matter of popping a pair out and its going fine on just the 12 gigs. Im going to swap them out under warranty with OWC so it should be ok soon.
I never would have pegged the issue with a ram problem though, I often keep my eye on the activity monitor and processes, and nothing seemed out of whack there.0 -
I still quite frustrated with the slow refresh thumbnail while choosing images.
Also once you hit develop files everything slow donwn a lot.
My Quad Mac use all RAM which built-in from MAC istudio.
I used to have RAM problem with my old Quad G5.
I put 2 brand in the same machine.
When I save files from photoshop sometimes there is a thin line across the files.
After changing to one brand RAM, the problems gone.
So I believe sometimes uncompatible RAM might cause some trouble.
But my machine slow redraw thumbnail and laggy response on C14.8.2 is not from RAM.

I just read another thread "4.8.2 seems much faster at browsing networks (AFP, SMB...)".
I would like to add that I also works with files from server through gigabit hub.
Is it possible that it is the cause?
But I never have problem with C1v.3.x.x before.0 -
I just update Mac OS 10.5.8
And I am glad to tell you that the files browsing is much faster now.
I have not tested developing hundred files and see if everthing slow down or not.
So far very happy now.
