Nikon D5 support?
Got the Nikon D5 yesterday and was expecting 9.1 would support it? Any idea when? Bit disappointing when there's so much lead-up time to the camera release.

P1 never announces dates for camera support. I suggest you file a request as a support case that you want to have this camera supported, the more users do the higher the priority. 0 -

Shouldn't need to do that with a major flagship camera. We ain't talking about Panasonic or something here 😐0 -
Photoshop's latest update supports it in Camera RAW already so they manage to keep up - you would expect Capture One to also keep up since it's a specialist RAW processing software we Pro's all opt to pay for as it is a Pro software and as Wesley said, we're not talking ameteur camera's here, this is Nikon's flagship so disappointing to download the first files only to find out I couldn't open them in my Pro RAW software ... 0 -
Hello,
Well, here in Germany, the D5 is still not available. so, be a little more patient ;-P
Regards0 -
We base our raw-support on a production model of a given camera. These have not yet been available to us.
We are aware of the existence of the D5 and D500, and support will come (as the history of Nikon support in CO clearly shows).0 -
Well, it is always the same discussion here. I am probably getting my Nikon D5 in Germany next Wednesday (actually it would have been possible tomorrow). Capture One is a professional tool but the manpower is compared to Adobe slightly lower that's why Adobe simply might be faster in delivering updates.
I hope to get a release to support for the D5 from Capture One pretty quickly and I am sure they will. Yes, it is Nikons flagship camera but I am not expecting a very high amount of users here using it actually. I'll try to be patient and will shoot RAW and JPG together until I am able to open RAW with Capture One - or use Nikons raw converter or Adobe as interim solution.
Happy Easter - be peaceful,

Thanks Christian for your quick response, I'm surprised you haven't yet obtained a production model, so does Nikon still not work with third-party software developers? I would have thought they'd got over that one by now ... so how does Adobe do it? Be interested to know.
Peter - this time the camera didn't come with the Nikon RAW converter software disc, not that I'd want to use it anyway, from past history it's always been clunky and I've just downloaded it from the Nikon site and yes it's still frustratingly clunky ... as to your prediction about it not being that popular over there I think you'll find it will be. As well as being a long-time Nikon shooter I also shoot Phase, Canon and Sony as no one camera is suitable for everything but this one certainly looks like the low-light beast we were promised it would be, I'm happily impressed so far!0 -
Hi Stefan,
Yes, the Nikon software simply sucks and too bad that Phase One most likely does not get the same manufacturer attention like Adobe.
My D4s does a pretty good job with high ISO and to be honest: If you print up to A3+/A2 noise is absolutely no issue.
I am hoping that the D5 will satisfy my AF experience with Nikon - I am somewhat spoiled by my Canon 1D Mark III and Canon 1Ds Mark III.
Hopefully on Wednesday I'll have a new toy to play with.

Well I am waiting for my D500. Current availability is 21st April 2016. Less than a month. 😄 0 -
I get my D5's tomorrow - hadn't even considered this ☹️ 0 -
I am wondering if Phase One could at least commit to having received their Nikon D5 already - that may add some additional rumours about an update coming pretty soon. I would love to see it rather sooner than later 😊
Thanks,

This can't happen soon enough! I've already shot a few shows with the D5 and I'm struggling to get things processed with Lightroom. 0 -
Same - I used to like LR but after using C1 and being forced back to LR I'm very unhappy. D5 support ASAP Please 0 -
Just to add to this thread with nothing useful at all.
D5 support would be superbly applauded please. Not a fan of that LR or the DNG converter at all.0 -

Wrong! Got mine on March 24th from Calumet! And LR already has it supported. So would be great to have CO9 support it, too.

Like Christian stated already PhaseOne would need a camera first

I hope they have it already at hand and work on the RAW files to bring Nikon D5 support into the new release. Personally, I do think and fear it may be another version ahead.

Love the D5 a lot but now I am stuck with the same issue like all have. Shoots great but what can we do without C1? Totally lost with all the CC BS from Adobe. Please Capture One, make it happen now. I want my C1 working ,-) 😊 0 -
Its mentioned often here that C1 doesn't have anywhere near the manpower of Adobe - I accept that but then please make up for that by at LEAST telling us how long we're gonna have to wait for this? Cant turn things around as fast as Adobe, ok - but keep us in the picture. All of us here have businesses to run and we rely on our software to work, please at least give us realistic expectations so we can plan our work correctly. 0 -

Well, and it is quite often written as well that PhaseOne does not commit on timelines nor do they give you an ETA for an update.
If you have a business to run you most likely have backup cameras and personally I simply would wait for a fully evaluated D5 Capture One version. I got my D5 for many different reasons but still have my D4s and D810 - the D4s will be sold and I feel your pain. I am using Lightroom for now to work with the D5 and I am not doing any business related stuff with it now. However, I am trying to get used to the D5 and will test their potential. RAW conversion will be a crucial part in post processing but I have to wait a few weeks.

Every time Nikon comes out with a new camera I'm forced to dust off my limited LR skills. I never go to a shoot without a backup camera and I can't be limited to one piece of software to process my images. I've already integrated the Nikon D5 into my workflow. This past week I've shot a number of theater performances and symphony concerts and the extra two stops low light capability has allowed me to capture scenes that I wouldn't have attempted before. Knowing what's on schedule for this week I'll continue to use the D5 despite not having Capture in my toolbox. I don't think I can ever get my LR processed files to look like Capture, but at least I have a standard to work towards. 0 -
Sure, I have some D4S' and D4's I can use - the D4's will be sold, however this is not about what I can or can't shoot with, its about P1/C1 keeping up to date. I used Lightroom for 5 or 6 years, I'm good to use it, but I like C1 better and I never expected that support for a Flagship camera would be this slow. 0 -

Why don't you write to Nikon and ask them to ensure that in future they make certain that all production bodies are made available to the Capture One team well in advance of their release to the masses so that the C1 people can do their testing, derive the the required profiles and be sure that they are available to fit with the C1 development and release schedule to coincide with the full availability of the body to the early adopters?
Presumably they can manage this for Adobe - so why not Phase?
Or are there other dynamics in process here?
Phase were ahead of the release date game with some Canon releases a few months back. That seems to suggest they have no problems delivering when they have a chance to do so.

Surely Phase One should be requesting this of Nikon, not their paying customers, right?
And again, I understand Phase One aren't as large as Adobe, and things may take longer - however due to this fact, Phase One shouldnt play the "I'm too cool to give specific dates" game like the bigger companies can.
No D5 Support yet? Ok tell me even ROUGHLY when it will be there.0 -

I expect they do and it is likely that Nikon have responded. The point is though that availability need to be timely to fit on with the camera's availability and whatever release schedule Phase have to work to to fit in with camera releases, operating system releases from both apple and Microsoft and whatever their internal development needs might be.
Therefore the sooner that Nikon (or whoever) is able to supply the new equipment the sooner support can be made available. Nikon (or whoever) customers making their favoured manufacturer aware of how keen they are, as customers, that the camera should have available support in C1 on or before the day of release would seem to be a reasonable thing for a paying Nikon (or whoever) customer to undertake if they find it important.
I seem to recall that some Canon releases a few months ago were supported from the point of first end user bodies being released - so it seems it can be done when everything comes together.
