Perhaps, if I only could understand what you are asking.

Open a directory with cr2 files.
Wait while CO7 loads all the raw files into the browser window
Click on one image in browser
    Select Details tag
    Look at Sharpening Tool
Change amount from 0 to 500
    Make radius 1.0
    Make Single Pixel 2

NOW HOW do I make those settings the default for every raw file I select without having to go though each step for every photo??

Select the image, make those adjustments, then select the option arrow in the upper right of the tool and select "Set as default for..."

Did that. Now when I select the next image sharpening reverts back to your basic settings instead of the settings I said should be default for this camera, in this case a 1dmk2.

    I create my settings
then I select "make default for canon 1dmk2"
I am then offered a window:
Apply new defaults to the selected varient?

    Now what??

A new default applies automatically to NEW images, not images you already opened earlier.

Now, with CO7, you can apply a new default to images you have opened.
First, select all images you like to apply the new default. Set the default as described. On the apply question, answer Apply.

Thanks. I think I've got it.

Is there a list of tools which can have a default setting?

    Have a great day
