saturation hell
Look at this. Same camera, same day, same hour, same location, same lens, same exact settings in Capture One 10.0.1.
I'd say about 20 % of my images exhibit this saturation discrepancy.
I can get the saturation of the images to kind of, sort of, match by reducing the saturation of the over-saturated image by -50, but that’s no solution.
It doesn’t seem to matter which camera profile I choose. The overall look changes, but the saturation discrepancies do not.
Also, why won’t this forum display images correctly? C’mon, Phase One!

Try White Balance adjustments rather than saturation.
Better still, possibly, would be Auto Levels but you need to set it up to process the colour channels individually. See Preferences for that.

But different scene, different light, different direction of light (which will make a big difference) - I don't see anything surprising about these results, Mark.
As Grant suggests, this is more of a white/colour balance issue.0 -
Forget it. I hate this software and the people who apologize for it. 0 -

Then why the hell are you using it, and why do you waste your time on this forum?0 -

Who is apologising?
Is there some other factor you have not told us about.
Mine was an absolutely honest answer based on what you offered. It's what I would do with most images I cared about and certainly with anything like the ones you chose to show.
I would likely do the same with any software I have ever used, if such facilities were readily available.
However, it's your call of course.

Not much as I hate talentless hacks who blame software for their own lack of photographic knowledge and ability...
We're not apologising for it, we just know how to use it.0 -

Well... it is easy to give up, but you will never be able to draw as much out of raw file with "that other raw converter" as you can do with Capture One..so you will just be switching back and forth forever and get as frustrated as you are now 😁
You could also learn to use the color tools in Capture One and spare yourself for a lot of frustration.. 💡0 -
I can understand the frustration I am in the same boat
what good is to get the best out of your Raw files if you cannot find them 6 months later since the search function is useless
or corrupt data files or where ever goes wrong,
I can count how many times I have been very close to wipe it from my drive and go back to Aperture
But what to do just hope that they come around at fix all the bugs0 -
Can you make the raw-files available for me to take a look at ? 0 -
I took the opportunity to download some DNG sample files from DPreview.
(I'm assuming I have identified the correct camera.)
In my opinion the sample files seem to show a similar situation and have been processed "to preference" in order to get the best out of them (in the opinion of the reviewer).
I note they have this to say in the review.
"<The manufacturer> has made improvements to its Auto WB performance in more recent < > models, but it's still not amazing, and there's more tonal variance from shot to shot than I'd expect from a modern digital camera. Likewise, the center-weighted metering system is predictably susceptible to underexposure when there are bright point light sources in the scene (on the plus side, this system gives very nicely balanced exposures in low light)."
I think the samples provided by DPR support this opinion although they were not using a final production example it would seem.
I very briefly played with 3 of the sample files available using C1 V9.3 and found the results pleasing.
Based on what it is it would be immensely disappointing if they were not, at the very least, "pleasing".
In this example, possibly because of the DNG files, Auto Levels had very little effect but white balance usually produced fairly small but very effective results.
HTH.

I've seen shots like these already. Various photographers, various camera and lens brands, various raw converters. I'm curious to read what caused it this time. In the cases we reviewed, it usually wasn't the converter. But who knows? Maybe this time? [quote="markalanthomas" wrote:

If you hate it so much, why do you use it? And why do you think that the users in this forum who successfully work with CO and try to understand and help are apologizing? And for what? For using CO? Or for creating good images from well-shot raws using CO?
If you think I'm writing to apologize for CO, you're wrong and I'm wasting my time.
But if you are looking for a good, helpful discussion, providing the raw files (with your adjustments, as eip) would be a good move. Maybe someone will have a look.
