Video Metadata and Image Date Sorting
Unfortunately, when I sort by Image Date, it's an empty field for MOVs - so no sorting by date.
I did a little digging with exiftool - seems that the "Image Date" column in the C1 browser sorts by the Exp_date tag in EIP metadata. Trouble is, there's no Exp_date tag in MOV files.
Is there a way to change the metadata tag that the Image Date column is attached to? Unfortunately, based on my quick glance, it looks like the only common file creation date tag between EIP and MOV files is the FileModifyDate - which isn't exactly the creation date. I can understand why the engineers may have elected to not include this feature, since it's different for stills and movies - but could the Image Date column include an if statement on the backend to sort by Exp_date for stills or MediaCreateDate for videos?
Am I overlooking another solution to this issue? I thought about encoding the date at the front of the filename but that seems kludgy.

You aren't overlooking anything - this isn't currently something that is possible.
Frankly, while you can submit a feature request (via support ticket), I would not hold my breath on this. Capture One is decidedly not intended to handle video production related tasks (it barely handles TIFF files with layers and alpha channels) and while I don't speak for the development team this isn't something I expect to see change in the foreseeable future.
If you're using Adobe products for video post production, I recommend looking into Prelude for managing the video file workflow.0 -
Thanks for the reply.
We aren't doing any postproduction to the videos, which I suppose means that ours is a pretty unique use case, so I'm not holding my breath for a feature request.0 -

It still is a reasonable request to have video's properly catalogued in the catalogue. Most camera's today shoot video, and while most of us simply take pictures, it does happen (family trips, etc. I read in another thread that even the pro's take family pictures! 😊 )
So, it is very reasonable to expect that when C1P can import videos, it can also show them in the proper order.

I'm not sure where this has landed, but playing around on the program, I'm facing similar issues. I thought originally they were just issues with the pixel mobile mp4s, but it seems like even fuji and gopro mp4's are the same.
Like in the above, it would just be nice to have the videos in the same order of view with images when you sort by date. Oddly enough when you browse the catalog in the "folders" and goto the directory of the relevant mp4, it shows up in chronological order.
I'd go ahead and just use the folder section, but it doesn't show subfolders, so clicking through the folders to see the images, isn't very user friendly (maybe at least a show subfolders would be nice - which I've seen elsewhere in the requests too)
