You could start with making a change in the preferences Update pane. Try changing both Automatically Check for Updates and Automatically Register Products to Never if they are not already set that way.

    Thanks for responding.

I've turned off automatic updates, registration, sending diagnostic info, even turned off automatic catalog backup, just so there was nothing extraneous pushing things around in the background.

Repaired permissions. Removed any trace of C1 6, or previous C1 7 installations, installed clean on a capture computer I know is super solid.

    No dice.

Are you saying that the same issue is not happening on your computer?
If you turn off your airport, wait a few seconds, then try switching between the folder and camera tabs, is it snappy for you?

    Jets,

In my immediate photographic universe there are around a hundred machines running C1Pro. The vast majority of them are still on 7.1.3 and Mountain Lion simply because it is a massive undertaking to update them all at once to make sure everyone is working on the same version.

The one machine that is on Mavericks and 7.1.6 is on something of an island compared to all of the other work processes. On that one, I have not experienced the problems that you are describing.

In a general sense, across all of these machines, folder snappiness depends most heavily on: if the folder you are pointed to is on an internal/external/ network drive, is HD or SSD, Permissions on the folder you are pointed to, etc. I have never really seen being connected to network being an impediment to accessing a drive internal to the machine you are using. I will occasionally see a machine that needs the license to be activated out of the blue, but that is usually only a matter of clicking on the stored code and then it is back to normal.

If you are shooting to your internal flash drive on your MBP retina and to a folder with no permissions issues, such as the shared folder, I can't see that as being the problem.

Are you shooting into a Catalog or a session? If a catalog, are any of those assets offline/on a network drive/ etc? If you are shooting to a Catalog, I would recommend shooting into a fresh session instead, one created new in 7.1.6.

How many images are in the folder you are trying to access? The fewer the better in my experience. If you get above a certain number, which tends to vary depending on the specs of your system, it is possible to have too many images in a folder to get the baseline performance you experience when all is normal.

Are you experiencing this behavior on startup only? After opening and it sits unused for a bit?

Try opening C1Pro while holding down the ALT key and then create a new session and see if that changes anything.

Tried everything I could, and I think I found the culprit!

Noticed it was happening in 7.1.3 as well. Kinda screwed my day up today, on set.

Figured there must be some hang up with accessing files in relation to some online sync.

Didn't realize I had iCloud signed in on this Macbook Pro account.

Turned it off, and things seem fine now.

The only thing I had turned on in iCloud was documents & files, so at this point I assume there was a folder which capture one was accessing, that the macbook wanted to update when it was accessed. Causing the hang up.

Driving me nuts. Hopefully this post helps someone else!

I wish I had paid more attention to this thread weeks ago! This issue has seriously bugged me. It definitely seems to be a conflict between iCloud and capture pilot.

As far as I can tell It has nothing to do with the number of images in a folder or the speed of the computer. The bug can be reproduced consistently a clean empty session. Here's how:

If you have iCloud sharing on (particularly back to my mac). Make sure you have an active connection to the internet and create a new session. Switching between the library and camera tools should work fine. Now turn off your airport or unplug your ethernet and instantly you should notice a lag when switching between camera and the other tools.

Capture pilot does not even have to be running. Just the fact that it is an available tool,it is still causing a problem. If you remove that tool all together it seems to resolve the issue.

Confirmed on multiple computers with 10.8.5 and 10.9.2 on C1 7.2

PhaseOne has confirmed this via support case and apparently iCloud is causing other networking issues as well. They are awaiting a response from apple. For now they advise to sign out of iCloud when using capture one

Out of curiosity, where are you saving your sessions? I ask because the default location for a lot of users seems to be the Pictures folder within your user profile. If that's the case then it makes a little bit of sense that iCloud is causing a stir since Pictures is a directory that iCloud monitors/manages.

I strongly recommend that instead you save your capture sessions to /Macintosh HD/Users/Shared/[Create capture subfolder here]

The main reason is that the Shared directory is system managed for network sharing which means that permissions issues are almost never an issue. This might possibly solve your issue (whether iCloud is enabled or not) as well as preemptively circumvent issues (which I admit are rare, but a giant pain in the ass when they pop up) with moving files to other computers or network drives.
