Need for a Vega 20 ?

Hi !

Same question for C1-12 about the AMD Vega 20 :
does someone has an information about the need/the use of C1-12 of such a graphic card ?

    As you can see from my signature, I'm running on an almost 6 year old Mac with (workstation) graphics cards that are at least 7 years old. Even though it's a dual card setup, most applications just run on one card and this card breaks no sweat running C1 12. Prior to the MacPro I had a late 2012 iMac (pre-4k) that ran with a regular desktop class graphics card that was at least 8 years old and it was running C1 11 just fine as well.

    To answer your question; no, you don't need the latest graphics card to run C1.

    I guess that would depend on what kind of screen you are using, if it is 4K or 5K, I highly recommend to get the best GPU you can.

    I would go for a eGPU solution. Because there you can replaxe the GPU when somethings new out. Build in Vega 20 costs a lot and is slower than a good eGPU. I went for used Asus XG Station Pro and an new Asus Strix Vega 56. All in all I payed 730 Euro. This is more expensive than the upgrade from 555X to Vega 20, but it‘s futureproof (and very silent). Internal GPU always has the issue of thermal throtteling. If you only edit on the go, then this solution isn‘t good.

    See in my signature as well, my 7 year old card handles 4K over Thunderbolt just fine. For 5K however, I'd probably need Thunderbolt 3 and an appropriate card (yet still doesn't have to be the latest).
