These same images are just fine when displayed in CS5, Light Room 3.6 and DPP with no distortion or severe vignetting.

These software's apply default Lens Correction, we do not.
You can create the preset that suits you in the Lens Correction Tool.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm afraid it won't work for me as I stated in my post that I have Express rather than Pro and lens correction is not availabe. I always save my RAW conversions as TIF files and than polish them in CS5. The files that Capture One produces from G1X wide angle shots are beyond salvage with post lens correction.

Upon further investigation I have discovered that CS5, Light Room and DPP actually slightly crop G1X wide angle shots and my guess is that this is the only way they can provide a corrected image. Capture One Express does show the complete image so that although it's not possible for me to do a lens correction with Express I am able to see how much the image has been cropped.

Do you know if Pro would also have to resort to cropping to produce a corrected G1X WA image?

At wide angles the lens is slightly fisheye. Correcting that adjustment will result in cropping or concave sides. However with Capture One PRO the amount that this is done is completely up to you.

You could give it a try, with CO Pro, if you have CO Express. Deactivate and restart CO into Pro trial (up to 60 days!) mode. When you're done testing and like to go back to CO Express anyway, just activate the program again. Note that your Pro-based adjustments still apply when back in Express, no harm done, nothing lost.

Like you I use Express and I would prefer to get the full non lens corrected image from CO - as it does today. Then you can perform a very nice lens correction with PTLens.

The implementation of G1 X is incomplete. One of the successful tricks with lens construction of compact cameras of today is to allow distortions and instead correct it in software. By doing so other compromises can be avoided. However this means that raw converters has to include such distortion corrections. If it is not, it can not be claimed that the corresponding raw-files are supported. A basic requirement for such support is that the raw processor correponds to what you see in the cameras viewer and is the same as for the in-camera processed jpgs. For the CR2-files from G1 X, this is certainly not the case. As I already bought this camera it means that I have to migrate to Lightroom after some 6-8 years with Capture One. A step I do not want to take. ☹️
