Support of Mac OS X 10.9.x
Hi
I just saw, that Capture One needs Mac OS X 10.10.x and above. Is version 10.9.x just untested and therefore not supported or do you know of any incompatibility and prevent running?

You cannot install CO9 on 10.9. Some functionality in CO9 requires 10.10 (or 10.11). 0 -
Thanks for the fast answer. Understandable, but I still preferred it to be supported. Perhaps, time for me to think on a transition.

Just facing the same problem, as I can't upgrade my Mac to 10.10 yet (upgrading the machine usually takes a week or longer of stressful work, due to countless other software dependencies).
For what features in particular is 10.10 required? Are the OS X RAW handling capabilities involved? And if so, may there be hope RAW conversion was improved in C1 9 over C1 8?0 -

Basically excluding 10.9 support allows the developers to spend their time better and more efficient, as they do not have to take 10.9 support into account. That means that more modern routines can be used, which can benefit everything from time spent coding to the stability and performance of the end-product.0 -

And less time needed for testing another OS version on different hardware systems.0 -
That's a myth. If C1 were to use and rely on new OS X features, they won't work on Windows and vice versa. Since C1 is cross-platform, the benefit of new OS X features is minimal to non existent.
That's why I asked in the first place. If there is a feature unique to 10.10 that C1 benefits of, I'd like to know. Especially if it affects RAW processing, which would make me hopeful for trying C1 9, as C1 8 didn't work for me.
Being a software developer myself, I know that "ensuring compatibility" is just a setting in Xcode.0 -

While some components of CO are indeed cross-platform (like the core for image-processing), others are not and probably never will/can be.

I didnt mean to be offensive. Just wondered whether the 10.10 requirement is because development was done on a 10.10 machine, or because of a dependency on OS X features that didn't exist in 10.9. The latter would be rather uncommon for a cross-platform product, but it would be helpful to know which features these are. 0 -

You cannot install CO9 on 10.9. Some functionality in CO9 requires 10.10 (or 10.11).
The only question I had is which functionality that is. Since I didn't get an answer, I started speculating and got burned for that. Fine. Usually there's good reason for asking questions. By dodging them, you are losing customers.
Background: I can't afford to spend a week or so upgrading my Mac Pro to 10.10 and possibly reverting back to 10.9, because 10.10 might break my tool chains (which almost every OS X upgrade did). Therefore I need some more information to make an informed decision whether to buy CO9, or not.
Please, what functionality introduced with 10.10 does CO9 depend on?0 -

CO9 works on 10.10 and 10.11. For a good number of reason, including development, testing and CO8 usage-analytics, it was decided that CO9 would not support 10.9.
In short, CO9 will not break your tool-chain, should you decide to run 10.10 or 10.11.
CO9 has a 30 day trial, so please feel free to try it out on 10.10 or 10.11, before you buy or subscribe.0 -
Thanks for your reply. If you consider this information a trade secret, I'm fine with that.
Unfortunately I can't upgrade to 10.10 or 10.11, so I am unable to test CO9.0 -
So it seems to me the official reason 10.9 is not supported isn't b/c there's new tech in 10.10/10.11 that is fundamental and necessary - its because choices were made to limited development and testing to 2 systems not 3. Is that correct? I don't plan to go past 10.9 until I absolutely have to - thankfully 8.3.4 is working ok for me. Unfortunately I assume next year's PS version will drop 10.9. 0 -
I'd rather speculate that PO is going the 80% approach recommended by Apple. Whether that is advisable in a pro/prosumer market, only future sales figures can tell. 0
