I am no expert here, but... If you are trying to see raw in full view, it will take that time with a typical machine. Canon's software (for example) will do it much more quickly, but you do not get a cataloging application with it.

If you've already let MP create previews for the images you are trying to view, then seven seconds is very slow.

A basic feature of MP is to create "previews" so that there is something the size of your monitor screen to see while your machine is rendering a raw image for viewing. Think I've read here that the optimal size of a preview is the longer dimension of your monitor, commonly 1920 pixels.

On my machine, that brought the preview time down to milliseconds, though it is suddenly inexplicably slower to about two or three seconds. If you set the preview size in preferences, then imported raw should automatically have previews generated on import.

On my machine, previews aren't created unless I press CTRL-B (Windows machine). Think I read somewhere that if your catalog wasn't initially set up with previews than you'll have to do a CTRL-B every time you import raws.

Last note… I recently created 1920 previews for all images in the catalog (~7000). That brought the catalog size up from 110 megabytes to 2.8 GB. To my surprise, the large size of the catalog file did not impact performance much.

Hope this helps. Apologies for any errors. I'm learning too.

Last note… I recently created 1920 previews for all images in my catalog (~7000). This brought the catalog size from 108 MB to 2.8 GB. Happily, (in my case) this did not significantly impact performance. Not sure if my approach is advisable.

Nick, Thanks for the reply. My catalog it 120K images so I am hoping i don't have to create large previews to solve this. I was hopping that since I am rendering using the PhaseOne engine that things would be as fast as they are with C1Pro.

What do you expect from rendering multiple values from raw-data to TIFF?
What you get from the rendering is the final resulting pictures. Some brick engines seem to be much faster. e. g. those from beige/red bricks. But they do not use the raw data, but they display (not render!) the embedded jpeg within the raw-file. Due to the fact that there is no rendering in place they pop up comparably fast ageing C1. The same goes for adjustments - apply the visually onto a jeep is something completely different than applying changes to the raw data that need to be rendered everytime "Enter" is hit.

    Umm..

Can I expect as fast as CaptureOne? Can I expect as fast as light room? Can I expect as fast as Media Pro used to be? There is something in the way I was trying to find out what it was and how to get it to be faster.
