    Lars - there are three different things. There are
    (1) guide lines that you can turn on and off with a button on the toolbar or the keyboard short cut of Cmd-G - they are the two lines one horizontal and one vertical that you can drag around (and you can add more if two is not enough). Then there is

    (2) a grid of dotted lines that appears when you use the keystone or rotate tools. It's not something that you can keep on permanently. Finally there is

    (3) a grid of rules of thirds lines (or other patterns that you can choose in Preferences) that you see when you use the crop tool. There are options you can set in Preferences (on the crop tab) to show them when dragging a crop, never, or whenever grid and guides are switched on (that is whenever you show the guides using Cmd-G or the button on the toolbar).
