camera profile and "as shot"
Hi,
I wonder what de camera profile actually means. Does it mean that it will take all lighting settings, saturation, EV compensation, noise reduction, from the camera metadata and use that as a starting point? If not, why does choosing the proper camera profile matter?
Thanks

Hi Bigbird,
A camera profile does not relate to metadata settings like white balance, EV compensation and so on.
A camera or input profile defines the color characteristics like color space of a specific input device (camera or scanner comes to mind) and is necessary to translate its RGB values to proper values in the internal working space like sRGB or AdobeRGB, the computer software is working with. Likewise have output profiles for screen and printer the same function to translate from the internal working space to the output device its color space.
If you like to know more about profiles and color management, there is a nice PDF file on Phase One's site about Color Management (for a start):0
