Yes, somewhat..
-> Media Pro does focus on the catalog functions (supports more media formats, does have some smart functions Lighroom doesn't have)
-> Lighroom contains more image modification functionality. However, lot's of people only use the catalog functions.
With the price drop of Lightroom i think it's the better deal.

like me, usually I use the catalog function and normally I export the images with © and in different format for client, and are not so good the export.

You mean that media pro is better price?0 -

I use Media Pro, Capture One, and Lightroom.
I use Media Pro for my main DAM for photos. I prefer its interface and speed to Lightroom. I also like the ability to interface fairly well with Capture One. I save my key words, etc to sidecard files which are also read by Lightroom (except the color flags)
I do not use the other functions of Media Pro for printing or export, so I can't comment.
I think that Lightroom has a complete set of data base functions for photos, so in that sense you can call it a substitute for Media Pro.
I use Lightroom primarily to process my high ISO shots where I prefer its better noise reduction over CO, and for rapid work on very high dynamic range shots for quickly pulling detail out of the shadows. I do like the ability to add some Topaz plugins to LR, and LR communicates very well with Photoshop.
I would recommend that you try both MP and LR and see which one you prefer as a data base. If you are going to do almost all of your raw post-processing in Lightroom, I'd recommend staying with LR as your data base.
But just remember - none of these software packages is perfect ; some are better than others for certain functions. You have to determine which functions are most important to you.0 -
Short answer: No.
Long answer:
I am not sure not sure what platform you are using, but be aware that Media Pro is very unstable on OS X. It regularly crashes. The underlying application has received very few updates since it was bought by Phase and as far as I know there is no published roadmap. So if you are trying to run a business you might consider Lightroom a safer bet, since it is continually updated with feature as well as bug fix releases.
From the perspective of functionality there is a lot both applications have in common, but Media Pro is a subset of Lightroom. A better comparison would be the feature set of Media Pro and Capture One those two combined is closer to what Lightroom is capable of, though not really because Capture One is the best image processor out there. Media Pro I have always loved, from the days when it was iViewMedia. But they are not combined nor is either one very stable - on Macs.
I am not sure you said what file types you are working with.0 -
Basically you cannot compare MP and LR generally. This because a couple of features are so different, but can kill the one or other tools depending on your requirements. Just a very small example is Drag&Drop to other applications. Some users need this strongly and LR does not support this but MP does. Another one is support of XMP sidecars. And there are really a lot of other minor or major points which will lead to a very personal decision.
Meanwhile I like very much the parallel combination use of a real DAM and a good RAW editor. I tested not only:- DAM: MediaPro (MP), IDimager (IDI = RIP), IMatch (IM), ACDsee, PhotoSupreme, ...
- EDITOR: CaptureOne (C1), Lightroom (LR), DxO, Silkypix, ...
I tried a couple of combinations from MP+C1 over IDI+C1 to IM+C1 and finally IM+LR. My preference is mainly based on a couple of small annoyances or benefits. For example the support of specific camera model or file format or a certain flexibility with metadata processing changed my preference several times.

I use mac,
usually I try to make the best work with CO. I'work only with DB and a little olympus OMD, but CO does not work very good with that camera... or that camera is very bad... noise is big...
After I work with photoshop for the HDR corrections and Architectural line corrections, because CO is not really precise with architectural pictures.. I'd like some T/S lenses...
LR Is very good for the noise reductions, probably I could develop the olympus files with LR...
I'd like test Sony new 7 too...
I'd like use a software that can have a good dialog with CO, I thing me too the best SW for develop... And easy to use...
Thank to everybody!0
