    Hi everyone,
... Questions: Why ? Media Pro cannot work from a Drobo server ? Why Lightroom can do it easily ? (but I don't like lightroom)

You would have to ask Adobe why LR can do it. But, seriously, Media Pro was not designed to work over a "network" (i know drobo can also be attached as DAS). Workaround (worked for me with my NAS) is to first do organization of pictures on your hard drive and after you finish, move pictures to the drobo. In Media Pro re-locate the pictures to the drobo.

For the record, i would also like MP to be fully "networkable".

However, MediaPro should do just fine with the media on the drobo (it does work with offline media too).
Trie to move the catalog(s) to your home system, i'm sure this will work.

I did, my catalog is on my computer, and i create the overview 1024. Also i ask for see only the overview 1024 created, for be fast and independant of the drobo. But no work well like i expect.

In my test i copy all the files from drobo in my computer, and work well. But i did work test from drobo with a small catalog, because i have 8 To of pictures in drobo than i wll like in catalog, and this, i cannot move in my computer.

I did a test with lightroom to create a catalog from the drobo, with 18500 files for 540 Go, that work !!
I did same with MP, it is obscur to know what it doing, working, no working !! the wheel freeze...

I am Phase One user, and i like MP, it can see many different format files. For me Lighroom is unknow, and i don't like the sofware interface.
MP have a reader MP for other colleague worker wich want see the catalog without do wrong to destroy it.

PS: sorry for my english, it is not my language maternal

Hmm, not sure what's the problem here.

But there are some alternatives to look into.
    1. Is it possible to attach the Drobo directly to your system? (as a DAS intead as a NAS)
    2. You could make full size previews first and then disconnect the NAS (give it another drive letter i.g.). See if you can live with the result. Only reconnect when you need the original file.
    3. You could make smaller (sub) catalog on your computer to work on. When you want to archieve, import this subcatalog to the maincatalog and move the files to the Drobo also
    4. You could file a support call for this at PhaseOne
    5. Move to another DAM.

Unfortunately LR does not have a reader like MP does. You have to think out other strategies to work with colleague workers on your files. HTML galleries perhaps? It's not perfect.

For me LR was unknown too. I started to discover it about a year ago and moved my ingestion proces and development proces from Bridge to Lightroom. I'm not ready to move over with the catalog yet but i'm orientating now on a migration strategy. So, it does not have to be a big bang.

I did understand you 😊 Hopefully you will understand me! (English is not my first language too)

Media Pro was not made to run over a network. i dont understand why...but it needs to have all original files stored locally or on an external hard drive. It will retrieve the high resolution files from a server very efficiently.
So workflow really matters when using Media Pro.

try this for using Media Pro (MP) over a network....
1 Before starting Media Pro disconnect from the network or essentially break the path to the originals.
2 open master catalog and select images
3 save selections to new catalog
4 close master catalog and log on to network
5 select images from the catalog you created and download

When a large catalog is open in MP over a network problems begin. I don't know what or why but something is going on in the background that causes MP to slow down and corrupt data....over a network. If the originals are on the computers' hard drive or an external drive connected directly....it works.

I connect to the network (originals on server) for two things...
    Downloading original high resolution files
Resetting Paths-I do everything locally (importing, sorting, keywording) and make an archive. Then put all originals from the archive on the server. Create a duplicate catalog and reset paths so it links to the server.
This catalog is then stored on the server with the originals. Our media team members follow the same workflow...download the catalog, disconnect from the network, choose images and create new catalog, close master catalog, log on and download.

It works flawlessly for me if I follow the workflow above.
90% of MP workflow is offline

Thanks you rmoorlag and macsrock for yours answers.

The finally solution, will be to make a computer server, and use the Drobo like a backup of this server.
The computer will be fast for create catalogs and fast for differents people of the team to find pictures. There will have a cost, but we have nothing without nothing.
Now wait and see if the solution will be approve by the boss, 8To of pictures waiting for to be classify 😭
