Integration of Capture One and Expressions Media 2 IPTC Data
Sytem and Software
Mac
OS X v 10.6.4
Capture One Pro v 5.1.2
Expressions Media 2 Service Pack 2 v 2.0.2
Canon RAW files
Issues with IPTC data.
Is there a way to sync properly or completely the IPTC data in Expressions Media with Capture One?
Having completed various fields in the Annotations panel of Expressions Media, I have then tried both
Actions>Sync Annotations
And,
Open with>Capture One>Override.
However, neither seems to copy completely any amendments that are made in Expressions Media. Some fields work whilst others do not. Have I missed something? Is there a preference to select which fields are integrated?
My workflow in Capture One is to work with the RAW files until final processing using various recipes that usually output to JPEG files. My requirement is to use the Annotations panel in Expressions Media to identify and catalogue the images and then process them using Capture One and for the metadata to end up on the JPEG file. I don’t think that this is exceptional in any way.
I will make some comments on this.
1. In my opinion, Capture One has never been very good at managing IPTC data. It’s clumsy at best. This is worrying as it suggests that the company’s priorities are not to develop this area of digital asset management.
2. With the increasing pressure on photographers’ rights (or blatant disregard for them) it is becoming more important that the IPTC and EXIF data systems work efficiently.
3. It’s pointless having a cataloguing system that fails to manage IPTC data.
4. I notice that neither Capture One nor Expressions Media are listed as “Software supporting IPTC photo metadata standards IIM and "IPTC Core" by the IPTC at http://www.iptc.org/cms/site/photometad ... nel=CH0101

-Not 100% yet, but please keep in mind that Expression Media was just recently acquired... baby steps.[quote="Howard23" wrote:

-Hence the large step in the right direction by acquiring EM 2.[quote="Howard23" wrote:

-No argument there. Again, this is why we are pursuing additional IPTC features in Capture One as well as why Expression Media is now part of our team.[quote="Howard23" wrote:

-Can't say that it's completely pointless, but certainly a hindrance at the moment.[quote="Howard23" wrote:
