C1 4 Pro Laggy response
Hello, I am running a trial version of the C1 4 Pro app, and so far I really like it, I have been using LR2 or DPP ( I shoot canon 1 series) I find the color much much much better in the capture one engine, from intial render to output over the adobe software. My question is this, I have the software loaded on an intel mac pro tower, with 20 gigs of RAM and 3 hard drives in the tower, the startup disk has 300 gigs free, and the ohter two dirves have 240 and 100 gigs respectively free, and are used solely for images. I find that navigating through C1 and changing tabs, making adjustments, using tools, cropping etc, is not smooth, its jittery and kind of lags behind the cursor. Is there something I am missing or a setting I need to change. Scrolling through the viewer is smooth and ok, I just find it difficult to fine tuen an adjustment due to this, ,and usually wind up manually inputting values instead. Does anyone else have this issue. Its not like I have a slow machine, or maxed out drives, or not enough RAM (20 gigs!!!!) Any help would be appreciated.

hmh... C1 V4 was laggy in the begining but up from version 4.6 or 4.7 it runs fluently on my Mac Pro as well as on a little Macbook.
The redraw of previews at 100% working with big files is somewhat slow, but still okay. Scrolling through thumbnails is very slow as well. But everything else (adjustments) is smooth.
FWIW... C1 doesn't need RAM in the first place but takes full advantage of the number of cores.0 -
Some things to consider that might help...
How many files are in the folders you are looking at? This first time you open a folder of images, preview files have to be generated and this can take some time if there are alot of images. for general stability I recommend keeping folders down below 3-400 images, in other words 1 folder per shot or look in a professional workflow. A typical Fashion shoot for instance might be 10 different "looks" in the day with around 150-300 captures per "look." In that setup I would have a session for the day with folders for each look.
Beyond that we have seen performance issues due to bad permissions on a user account. try creating a new user account and re-installing Capture One. Then see if performance is any better.
I have seen a case or two where a very old monitor profile was creating issues generating previews, so if you haven't calibrated in a while, it may be time to do so.
If you want to create a support case we can look into it much more in depth.0 -
Thank you for the response. I checked and it seems to run much smoother on my macbook pro than on my mac pro. I will run a permission check on my disc and see if its ok, and as far as the amount of images in a folder, it varies, some have more than 300, some less. Ill do some more digging and let you know what I find on my end.
I really must say though as a side note, I think the program is great, I am really happy with the output, it toally changed the results I was getting from my canon 1ds mk3 and 1d mk3. I have been using lightroom2, and while I will say that lightroom lets me blast through preliminary adjustments and such faster, and is slightly more intuitive than C1 pro, the color is no comparision. The reason I tried C1 was because I absolutley hate the rendering I was getting from Adobe CR or LR, and I spoke to so many people who swore by it and love it and thought I was nuts, and quite frankly, the most important thing to me is the accuracy of the file in terms of fidelity and color. I was pulling my hair out, about to drop kick my canons thinking they were messed up etc. I opened the same files in C1 and was so relieved by the look, in no time I had my files looking like I rememeber when I captured them, totally took a lot of frustration away from me , so thank you very much. the color in lr is a joke IMO its boosts these unnatural colors, skin goes red and orange, no matter what you try, incandecent sources take on a peach tinge, its tough to control the contrast, and always seems muddy, I could go on. but you get the poitn so good work C10 -
It should run quite smoothly and at a 'crisp' pace. Workflow is the program's signature, (although there have been some reservations since v 4), and you should find it on the level of the output. 0 -
ITs funny overall its fine, importing, switching between tabs, output processing, creating web galleries, navigating through menus, etc. It just lags when I am making adjustments. FOr example, clarity slider, I move it and its a littel jumpy and it takes a moment to apply to the image. The color editor, if I use the eyedropper to spot a color and them fine tune it on the color wheel, the movement on the color wheel and refreshing of the image is laggy and not fluid. thats what Im noticing 0 -
Hi there,
I am having similar problems.
I also have an 8 core mac pro with plenty of RAM. The responsiveness of the capture one interface is so laggy on my system it is barely usable. Sliders are unusable, and drawing a crop frame is a nightmare. I have tried it with P45+, H25 and Canon 5D files alike, and it is just as slow no matter what the image size. This is with the trial version of capture one 4.8.
I have also tried capture one 4.1 on my system, and it could handle P45+ files no problem. The laggyness only happens on version 4.8.
Maybe this issue needs to be looked at... I like capture one but this problem certainly needs to be fixed before I spend 300$ on the program.0 -
If it makes any difference, I am on a trial version as well. and yes, makes me get more on the fence about purchasing the program. I mean aside from that issue, i love it, I really cannot stress how much better it handles the color of files over adobe ACR and LR2, I havent even launched either of those since I got C1 on my mac. 0 -
Are you running 4.8.1? I believe some multicore issues were fixed in that upgrade. 0 -
ditto garibaldi about C1 vs. LR/ACR. I had all the same frustrations, and C1 has changed my world! I just wish we had the local adjustment features, but it doesn't matter when the files look this good so easily. 0 -
I also have the same problem.
C1 v.4.8 is very stable and fast than earlier v.4.x.
But the preview is so slow. We normally seperate shot by each folder eg. s1, s2 etc.
When we want to develop files.
We have to choose each folder one by one and wait all previews completed before select all key and hit develop files.
Otherwise files will be develop only the files that already show preview.
While the rest files which previews not showing yet won't be develop.
When we start develop a lot of pictures. C1 start lag of response.
All previews start slower and slower.
Still v3.7.x has better response while developing.0 -
Hi i still am having a problem with this. C1 pro 4.8.1 on my mac, 20 gigs ram up to date leopard. If I go to switch a folder lets say in the column on the left in C1, It sticks for a few seconds, then I get a spinning beach ball and then after about 10 seconds it starts loading, albeit slowly. its frustrating 0 -
Follow point 4 to 6.
