Sharpening / D200 and Capture One LE
First of all, let me just say that I am a newbie with regard to Capture One as I have only just got it (so excuse the naive questions!)
I have processed several RAW images, including sharpening (set at about 100). My question is that, whenever I open the processed image (JPEG) in photoshop, although it appears sharper than the RAW file, it does not look as sharp as the processed JPEG does when viewed in Capture One! (although in ps it does somehow look more natural)
I am missing something here?! Is it just an illusion?
P.S - If anyone replying uses a D200, I would be interested to know a guideline figure for sharpening. I'm frightened of over shaprening, but at the same time I want crisp images.

HI-
When checking any adjustments- Use the focus tool window, not preview to see what it will look like processed with adjustments.

Thanks - do you have any suggested settings for the Nikon D200? 0 -
Hi -
It really depends on what you are using the images for.
many factors include: size, viewing distance, subject matter,
detail enhancement , compression of image and if the Image is going to be going through various editing stages, and the requirements of pre-press and publishers
In fact there are alot of opinions on the subject !
As you said before, You may want to invite other Photographers or Nikonians opinions on this by giving them a general idea of what type of photography jobs that you do.

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps what I should have asked is - what settings would you recommend that I do not go beyond? i.e - at what point would any image type start to loose quality and look unnatural? assuming no compression and max file size.
Usually interior shots or people in their surroundings type shots.
I will of course also get feedback from fellow Nikon users.0 -
Hi-
If you have a nicely focused image you can start or stay with the standard look of amount of 25-30 and a threshold of 3 which is the default preference. Some prefer even softer settings for portraiture.
Some people in the trade say not to go beyond of the amount of 75 and 3. Its really the call of the factors I listed above and trusting your eye.
Kind regards-
