Time to address DNG definitivly
So much attention on this right now. I am a C1 user for years because I prefer the way files look over ACR. BUT looking way ahead I'm concerned for legacy files of images that represent the best I have ever done, and how to preserve them. I know I'll be able to print a negative, or scan and print it, but not so with RAWs. It has been mentioned that PhaseOne fears losing customers if they implement DNG. In fact, I think they'll lose them if they don't.
Right now they issue corporate affirmations, but I want them to know how important this for so many of us.
Thanks

I agree, DNG is very important for me. Both in archiving and havint the possibility to deliver a DNG to a customer that can use PS to develop it.
Personally I know that I have to continue to use C1, since ACR do not make use of custom Camera profiles, and I am depending of that when shooting.0 -
Yes, I really want DNG too. The C1 team ought to read Peter Kroghs \"The DAM book\" and realize why a lot of photographers may choose to go with Adobe's raw converting tools in the future if C1 don't catch up. (I don't like Adobe's Bridge or Adobe Camera Raw, but I sure like some of the workflow/archiving concepts that P. Krogh is outlining in his book. I would like to embrace his workflow if only I could use my preferred apps, like PhotoMechanic instead of Bridge and C1 instead of ACR.) 0 -

Exactly! Same here.

I have already stopped using C1 LE because of lack of DNG support. I had been intending to upgrade the PRO when DNG support became available but the longer they make me wait the further away I get from coming back (and spending my hard earned money on the upgrade). Sadly it seems that Phase One doesn't understand how markets work, people flock to \"standards\" and those who do not integrate die.
Very soon Adobe's \"Light Room\"program will be fully released and C1 will also have lost it's workflow advantage to the amazingly integrated and developed program.
C1 made me fall in love with the possibilities of RAW in 2004 but sadly now they seem caught in the past...0 -
Sadly, it's unlikely to happen.
As most know, the brains behind CaptureOne left to create RawShooter.
They were since bought-out by, and are now working for Adobe.
The orphaned code they left at Phase One is likely too complex for a company of that size to maintain, which is why there've been no significant upgrades since.
There's been plenty of rhetoric, but I suspect most will agree that the track record here supports me.
It's a shame, really, because the marvelous processing algorithms that made CaptureOne great, and which were refined in RawShooter, will most likely be polluted in Adobe bloatware, but alas... If you're looking for new great things out of CaptureOne, that's unlikely.
You'll note this site is full of talk about a "roadmap," and has been for months.
WIthout a driver, though, a roadmap is of little value.0 -
As I write I am attending NAPP's Photoshop World In Las Vegas. I've seen only one person using C1... It is completely unrealistic to think that Photographers will not use other conversion applications because they are Phase users. Capure One Raw needs to be compatible with Bridge, DNG, Photoshop, Aperture and (soon) Lightroom. What will happen is this- as DSLR's progress in image quality and MB size, and are able to use the universally recognized RAW conversion software in addition to the manufacturers own applications, Photographers will be forced into choosing what works best for them in their workflow, regardless of the better quality attainable with a Phase back.
I hope Phase is listening. Make Capture One RAW files compatible with Adobe and Apple.0
