Speed issues

Cannot confirm that with my hardware and it's older than yours. However, a MacBook Air is really not the type of machine I would use for RAW editing. The MBA is meant for light office work (think Pages, not Microsoft Office which is a resource hog) and a bit of web browsing. Aside from its integrated graphics card which is probably barely being able to cope, the 8GB of RAM is even more concerning. C1 will easily eat up 3-5GB of RAM, then you have the macOS that takes at least 2-3GB and you are already maxed out. That means, the virtual memory will kick in, moving all the data that doesn't fit into RAM onto the SSD, which is much slower. I'm pretty certain that is your problem.

I mean, I can already tell you that your machine is inadequate for what you're planning to do but don't take my word for it. Rent a MacBook Pro (with 16GB RAM) for a week, install C1, import a shoot and try it out. At the end of the week you should have a better understanding whether your speed issues are machine related.

I have to agree with TazPhoto...
I feel that overall performance in version 10 is worse than 9 unfortunately.
Especially when using layers and local adjustments.
Also seeing this when using the spot removal tool. Even a low number of spots slows down the editing.

Using a 2013 iMac with 16GB RAM and SSD.

After leaving the Mac for a few hours, the issue seems to have righted itself. The program seems to be as zippy as ever.
    Just. Weird.

The MBA handled 9.x just fine, and was running Aperture for years without a hitch.
I know it's not a beast of a machine, but given 10.x is supposed to be faster…
Also, any pagefile swapping is negligible thanks to the SSD.
And, of course, the working files cannot be opened in 9.x any longer.

A MacBook Pro would be nice though…

Where Capture One 9.x had some intermittent speed issues, Version 10.x has a serious think every time I select a different tool or image.
Part of my reasons for upgrading was a promise that it would run faster.

    I am running a MacBook Air (2013)
    OS X Sierra 10.12.1
    1.7 GHz Intel Core i7
    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Same experience for me with Pro 10 trial. - My computer freezes and is useless. Never happened where I used Pro 9.3; a total disaster.

Has anyone checked to see what process are going on?

I would guess that C1 is undertaking a total recreation of the Cached files (Previews, etc.) as part of the catalog update.

That could take some time especially on a large catalog but would, probably thought depending on how the paramaters are set for defaults for preview file sizes and so on, be a one-off exercise for "mass processing".

Such an activity would probably explain the earlier observation from Tazphoto that leaving the system (presumably running) for a few hours seems to have eliminated the problem.

Likewise suggestions that opening a catalog with a filtered subset of images from the time it was last closed seems to improve performance.

I work 99.9% with sessions and don't experience the problem - likely because my session are usually no mare than a few thousand images and usually organised in folder so are closed with a folder open. Nothing like a huge catalog.

I checked - there is nothing under "activities".

I also work mainly with sessions. The Speed issues I have (MacBook Pro Retina, i7, 16GB RAM) manifest in minute-long hangs when trying to zoom into TIFF images.

If you have upgraded from a previous version of C1 make sure you remove the old
preferences. Option click on the Go tab and select Library, open Preferences and delete:

    com.phaseone.captureone9.LSSharedFileList.plist
    com.phaseone.captureone9.plist

    Restart and relaunch C1 10.

There seems to be some conflict with old preferences.
This is something I have noticed with previous version upgrades.

    Try this too:
In C1 preferences, under General, change "open CL" settings from auto to never.

    Hope this helps.

I have the same problem with extreme slowness and computer locking up while using the Pro 10 trial, verses my old reliable Pro 9.3 program. I will stop using catalogs and begin using sessions.
