Plugins for CO12

I too was happy to see support for 3rd party plug-in support being added. I have not yet submitted my thoughts but I am thinking about it.

Funny thing about plug-ins for syncing collections etc.: when I switched from LR I thought this was going to be something I would really miss. Then the first time I wanted to upload some pictures came along and it was so smooth and easy. I exported to a folder and then imported them to my word press site. I was so happy it all just worked. I didn't even realize how much time I spent trouble shooting LR plug-ins for uploading pictures. It seemed like things changed so frequently that I was constantly having to download new version and tweak the UI to properly login.

I am not really looking to repeat that. I'll be thinking about integration to HDR, Panorama stitching and additional options for export (mogrify for example).

I found an alternative work flow that does the job, but a plugin (that can sync from a User Collection) would still be nice. I found the Smugmug plugin in Lightroom to be very effective.

It is going to be interesting to see what plugins show up - as you say HDR and panorama stitching are prime candidates, and I think you can add focus stacking to the list.

Oh yeah focus stacking. That's one of the ones that is ready now:

Will plugins be listed somewhere as they become available?

The description of the Helicon Focus plugin doesn't tell me much. Has anyone tried rhis and if so, does it really add signicant value, or just sort of streamline the round trip?

From CO12 you can go via Image menu > Publish > Get Plugins to the Plugins page in the Phase One website. You also get there from CO12 Preferences > Plugins tab > Get more plugins button.

Searching these fora for "profoto plugin" will return some 20 replies, dating somewhere between 2011 and 2015. A plugin architecture thus is nothing new in CO, but at the time it was met with little interest from plugin developers. As far as I recall swedish flash equipment provider Profoto was the only taker. In 2018 that's history, it might be time to deal the cards anew.

The one thing however, that I have a hard time understanding is: Why is Phase One deciding to implement a proprietary plugin interface? The plugin market seems otherwise quite settled on a de facto standard, and wouldn't the plugin providers just love to see the market for their preexisting products expanded?

Instead, with the choice of a proprietary interface, they will face a potentially expensive port of their products to said interface. Some are bound to say thanks, but no thanks, thus leaving the user with fewer options.

I just don't get it, but I would honestly like to understand. What's the benefit for end users, what's the benefit for the plugin providers?

Maybe just technical limitations, i.e. C1 in its current form can't meet the requirements of existing plugin interfaces, or it conceivably could but the amount of work needed to make that happen is prohibitive.

In other words, no benefit for neither the user nor the plugin developer. Sounds like a no sale to me.

Some users will already own a copy of, say, the DxO Nik Collection. Will they be willing to fork out for a version for the CO proprietary interface? I know I wouldn't.

Seems to be exclusively for use with a Phase One XF camera system.

It is not camera related or dependent. It is true that with the XF system you have the advantage of the sequence ID, which makes selecting images easier. This does not exclude other systems however.

Although not yet tested myself, my understanding of the HF plugin is that it replaces the existing (CO11 and earlier) round trip and possibly streamlines it.

I've been using the Helicon Focus plugin for the past three days. I shoot with Nikon's and the plugin has significantly improved my workflow.

Count my vote for a Smugmug plugin that does just what you mention, sync with a User Collection (creatively called Smugmug Galleries).

I - and I'm sure many others - have requested this capability via the Capture One web site and the Smugmug site. Not sure if anything is in the works, but I found this post interesting:
