Canon 7D Picture Styles
I am shortly to become the owner of a Canon 7D which will replace my venerable 350D. As I understand it, support for Canon 7D 'picture styles' is not available in Capture One, but only in Canon's DPP software. However, is there anything more to it than setting the defaults for saturation, contrast etc? Could support for these be made available in Capture One, or is the RAW extension format used by Canon not readable by others?

The Canon picture styles may be (or not) a feature that Canon is keeping for itself. I was mainly designed to give JPEG shooters a way to change a set of in-camera process parameters fast.
Capture One on the other hand, has in the Pro version the incredible powerful feature to do this and more, and it is called (drumroll).... Styles. You can use this with any camera, independent of what the manufacturer designed for it (or not).
Assuming you now have COx non-Pro, you might consider an upgrade to Pro along with your professional 7D.0 -

I do have the pro version. I just thought that it might speed up my workflow if I could have shortcuts to various picture styles set up on the camera.0 -
I think with CO Pro you can better speedup your workflow by neglecting the Picture Styles feature at all if you are shooting raw and create a few Styles (or use default styles) in CO to your liking. The advantage of raw is that you can assign parameters afterwards without sacrificing quality (in contrast to JPEG). By using Styles in your raw converter, you take this to the next level: apply a set of parameters afterwards (no hassle at the camera, shooting with the wrong style), per image or set of images (the latter has become faster since CO6 Pro).
Even Canon finally got that picture. When shooting raw, with DPP you can apply any Picture Style afterwards, independent from the style in the camera during the shoot.0 -

OK. So is there anywhere I can get the specs for the various Canon picture styles so I can then create Capture One styles to give me the same effects - as you describe can be done in DPP? Alternatively, has anyone already done this?0
