CaptureOne 8.1 new features - more details please?
Hi,
Thanks to PhaseOne team for Capture One 8.1 ! It is really great to see already some new features so soon after the initial version.
I read the following in your document:
New features
• Editing in Photoshop
• Improved Auto Adjust
• Quick Cursor Tools
• Find/replace renaming
• Additional and improved naming tokens
• Multiple Guides
• Incremental Camera Controls
• Up to 16 Adjustments Layers
• Additional TIFF processing options
OK, so some of them are obvious (at least to me), and some others are not (again, at least to me). Could you please explain:
- Editing in Photoshop: how is this enabled (not that I care much, I do not have Photoshop)
- Improved Auto Adjust: how ? what did you change ? of course I can try, but a bit of explanation would not hurt
- Quick Cursor Tools: I do not understand, what was improved ?
- Multiple Guides: again, what was done ?
I love your software, its depth and its output. But sometimes, really, your documentation is really really thin.
Thanks for your help 😊

And by the way, the new naming tokens are a great feature ! 0 -
I can shed light on the multiple guides feature, from trying this out. Instead of being limited to just one horizontal and one vertical guide when you click the "Show grid and guides" button you can add more. On the View menu, select Add guide and choose to add another horizontal or vertical guide. If your guides are centred, you may not see any difference until you drag one of them away from the centre, then you will find you have two horizontal (or vertical as the case may be) guides. And it seems you can get rid of the extra ones again by just dragging them off the edge of the image.* I haven't experimented to see how many you can add.
Ian
* Edited to add: in fact you can drag the original ones off as well, it seems. So for example if it suits you, you could have three horizontal guides and no vertical ones.0 -
Thanks Ian, I got it now.
This feature is quite interesting, although I find one behavior a bit ... unexpected. You can "clear" the guides and it will remove all of them, which is ok. But then when you toggle the guides off and on again, all guides are still "cleared"; i.e. no guides at all. I would have expected that even when you clear the guides, by toggling the functionality off and on again it would be reinitialized (1 horizontal and 1 vertical lines).
Anyway, thanks again Ian 😊
Meanwhile, still trying to understand what the "Quick Cursor Tools" is. I don't see any "Quick Cursor" or "Cursor" tools. Guess I must be blind 😉0 -
Hello !
Find/Replace Renaming is located in the batch rename menu in the contextual menu of the thumbnails.
Instead rename as usual, you can ask C1 to find part of a file name and replace it.
(it works like "a better finder rename" software).0 -

That does sound like a bug, might want to submit that!0 -
I agree with initial request, meaning we need some more documentation, specially for new features (and thanks a lot for them..!). "Open with, Edit with" is easy to find, work fine, and easy to understand but some other new implementations are even not easy to locate..! I.e "cursor tools"..?
If Phase One wants to compete with LR, the minimum would be to give some explanations, in english because we all understand that translation is a long way to achieve, so english ok.
A pdf guide would be too a good idea, online guide is not so fine, because I used to often read user guides in train or.. without WLan !

Yeah, there is zero detail info what has changed besides the bullet point on the C1 download page. It doesn't even say that the latest version is 8.1. If nobody would have mention that here I would have missed that. Seems really odd. I am a registered user, why not give the option to send out and email I can subscribe when a new version is released.
And a proper "what has changed" PDF like in the older days would be really great. Now there is just nothing. And I highly doubt anyone will update the help page (that is not even directly linked from the normal page). The whole documentation is pretty horrible mess. Thought LR is not really much better.0 -
Thanks Phase One for the folwing fixing Bugs: 😄
Mac: Fixed an issue where Export to Originals did not include LCC or ICC profiles
Mac: Fixed an issue where incorrect dates would be applied to imported images
Mac: Fixed an issue where using the Spot tool together with a Heal Layer would result in a crash
Fixed some stability issues
Fixed 100+ other bugs

Why not let the program itself check for you? It's in the preferences.0 -

Hi,
thanks for your link.. good idea and interesting.
I don't want to be unpleasant with Phase One, I like C1 very much, but the price and technical level of this solution requests a minimal amount of new informations and explanations, when a new release is available. Here it's a major one ?
Could be that Phase One is overbooked because I could see some translations are not yet implemented and fields are still in english.. no problem for me but this only show that time is missing.0
