This problem continues to plague me. Experiencing it with D800, D800E, and D4.

I'm on C1 7.2.2. I've tried all permutations of repeater cables (USB3 from TetherTools), no repeater cable (direct camera to computer), using the USB port closer to MagSafe adapter (mid-2012 non-Retina MBP w dual SSD, 16GB RAM, on 10.8), with and without a CF in the camera...all same problem.

Fast shooting results in disconnects, and I can only get images to flow again by physically unplugging and replugging the tether cable.

Nikon is set as the sole "Provider" in C1 Preferences.

When the disconnects occur, I get kCaptureProviderEvent_CameraRemoved errors in the syslog, among some other things.

Anyone else still having this issue?

I've heard of people having success using powered USB hubs inline to boost the current...not sure if that's something that would help.

The "Plugable" brand usb3, 4 and 7 port powered hubs solved that problem for me. I use a tether tools usb3 powered cable with the nikon cable on the end, into camera. Different cables might yield varying capture speeds incoming into the computer.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting info on this thread. The right side of the MBP or the the side near the power supply (unless the power supply is on the opposite side than the power connection.) My client had a Nikon D800E. Connected with a 12' usb cable it would disconnect when he shot quickly. Unplugging from the computer for 2 seconds and reconnecting would reestablish connection and 4-5 images would come in. Brand new cable did not improve things. The right side usb port of the late 2013 MBP retina was more reliable than the left port. I was using a new 27" apple thunderbolt display which connects only to the thunderbolt port and has usb port on the back which apparently only usb 2.0. Connecting to the back of the monitor fixed the the disconnection woes. 4 hours and not another disconnection with the same cord. Images came in much slower, but without any disconnection.

I saw a similar post where someone was using a usb2 extender with the same results. So for most of us, it is not a loose connection at the camera, at least not on the D800E.

Has anyone successfully connected a D800 via USB3 shooting fast consistently? Please let us know.
