"Unable to scan" last 3 files of every folder import
Weird import bug in Media Pro 1.3.0.57192:
When importing folders of files into the catalog, I always get the error message "Unable to scan media files...XX" (3 failed), for the last 3 files of every folder. It does not matter how many files are in the folder, or if I drag the entire folder, or select-all and just drag the files.
I have to rebuild (ctr-B) those last 3 files individually, every time, for every folder!
Is this a known issue?

Hi,
that seems similar to my thread:

"unable to read" images are listed. However, how does one save that list and are the files always added to the list of files in the catalog. How can one search for them to rebuild them as they can be scattered all over the place!
Also, at the foot of the catalog it will state a number of files in the List, say 4013 files, 1 file selected, but then in the dialog box by the blue progress bar, it says 86,543 of 156,000 files processed.
Why then are there only 4013 in the "List"? How is this list designated?
Thanks to anyone who can clarify this.

Hi there,
I have same problem except there are always six files not scanned. Further, I am not able to rebuild those items, or same "fail to scan" is always repeated with rebuilds. Have I missed something, how do you make rebuild to work in this kind of case?

What works for me: create a new MP catalog, open the troublesome catalog, and move all images over to the fresh catalog file, then save the fresh catalog and use this henceforth.
I usually do this once a month and haven’t lost any metainformation yet. I keep backups of my catalogs, though.
It seems, on my system, Media Pro simply doesn’t like largeish catalogs and/or doesn’t clean out the catalog file from time to time (like Lightroom does). My work catalog is about 1.2 GB in size and holds ~5000 images. I still occasionally get this sort of behaviour/corruption. I’m considering switching to a one-catalog-per-job setup, as I’m told MediaPro can search over multiple catalogs. If catalog corruption is the issue here, this should work as a workaround. (And might be better practice due to backup strategy, too.)
Cheers,

Hi Sascha,
Thanks for the advice. One question: how long does it take to make that move to a fresh catalog? (I'm asking this due everything seem to require a short infinity to process in MP).
Btw, do you create a new catalog by File > New Catalog? What about all existing keywords etc? (I'm not so familiar with MP yet)

Hi Mark,
I create a new catalog via File -> New Catalog indeed.
For testing purposes, I just did this with my main catalog. 7800 images with comprehensive metainformation/keywording took half a minute to move to the new catalog, saving the new catalog another 20 seconds or so. Catalog size is 2.2 GB, Media size 132.5 GB. Rebuilding the previews/proxies, though, takes ages (15 minutes till now, still going). With copying your images to a new catalog existing proxies are moved over, too, i.e. you don’t need to rebuild all items.
All metadata is still in place. (People, Events, Catalog Sets etc. included). I regularly sync metadata added in MediaPro to the files, though (XMP). Should you try to rebuild your catalog this way, keep in mind you’ll have to reapply changes to the GUI should you not run the default settings (e.g. Place Finder is disabled by default, I don’t need the Author tap etc.).
This is on an SSD-equipped iMac i7 with 16 GiB RAM.
Hope this helps,

Hi Sascha,
Thanks for this info. First I need to run some tests. I have thus far collected all this year images into one catalog (and they take altogether 280GB !). I´ll first try to make a test with another, smaller set of images and try how this works. Your iMac is clearly faster than my Win7 desktop with std HDD, but it should still be acceptable in speed.

Update:
[color=#800000:13by5rk7]The "unable to scan..." message is still there, but I really cannot tell what has not been scanned. The thumbnails have been created, as well as the 1920 size previews, and the file info is also there... What is missing???
Perhaps it is just an erroneous report of the Action Log.
So I now just ignore the "unable to scan media files..." and keep going.[/color:13by5rk7]0 -

I do the same. I get the error message on occasion, but everything is always there.0
